Jimmy Mac, I didn't agree with everything you said but you are right: blacks folks need to get plugged into what's going on and start trying to get a seat at the table. We are so emotional and less logical. Lets reverse that.

Dyson, one more thing. enough with the $3 words trying to impress everyone. when you talk you remind me of the snl skit with the guy who used big words in poetry---from his jail cell. less is much much more. try it some time

Dyson is a race baiter who earns his living off trying to say something provocative. We need other, more grounded and rational voices. Its time to retire dyson

It is amazing, reading the many comments about Obama as president. Black People are at best less than 11% of the total population of this country, but yet control nothing. If you really want to understand what is going on in this country look into the prison population. There are only three type of people in this known universe and they are (a) White racist, (b)white racist supremacist, (c) non-white people. With this statement I am not trying to encourage animosity toward any group of people. Facts are facts, and what it is is what it is. All non whait people should know that there are good white people and bad white people. You have to realize that when the racist white suprecist calls a meeting you won't be admitted because you don't have the unlimited membership card. Meaning you are not invited. Now if you think for one minute that President Obama is so smart and intelegent, that he is running all of this then you are a big wizard of smart. He was elected to please you, and so that the political stealing can continue as normal. He has collected his share Approximately $606 million, plus interest. The political ruling class and their families, the keepers of the system and thieves in the temple, that two and half percent of this the national USA population. Is going t be getting theirs long after you are gone, and the youth today when they get to middle age and retirement age they won't even remember what happen to them. What did Warren Buffet just purchase. Look at Barney Franks, request another 18 Million from the government to cover the 19 million lost in bad loans to people that will never pay them back. that is just two examples. Black people are to dumb, to read how things are suppose to work, instead of looking and conplaining about how they are working. President has not written a plan out on any thing yet nor will he. I am of the opinion that each and every person should study the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America, so that you will know what the law say and how this counrty is suppose to operate. Then look at how the Congress and the House are really operating, look at all three branches of government then you will understand what your job is suppose to be. Every person should seek to establish Justice in the following areas of activity, including Economics, Education, Entertainment, Labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex, and War. Then you will know what you have to do to over come your situation. Until then you will remain what I call a humonid hyberd consuming all of the processed B.S.

You are still hoping for change, waiting for change. Give him some time to do what? Change what?
This ain't got nothing to do with Bush. This Country Make over $14 trillion dollars every year rain or shine. And going raise your taxes, sur-charges and taxes and cost until you are in the ground.
How much time will he need, appoximately

I rest my case. (11/15/2009)

Coloured1 it appears wants to call me into a debate here. 1st of all there is a huge difference between what I and Sammy posted. I am a fan and appreciate what Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, and Dr Cornel West do for the black community, where as I think its safe to say Sammy does not appreciate them at all.

I think you need to go back and review the Presidents campaign. President Obama is doing what he said he would do, almost to the letter. The country is under leadership that is attempting to move it in the right direction but like any bureaucracy it takes time to do so. In this case it also takes the support of the people. No waving of the proverbial magic wand here. Have you called your senator and congressman to show your support since President Obama has come to office? What bills did you call and discuss?

This may be to deep to discuss here, but if you study sociology you will learn that the most damage black Americans took from slavery was the lost of culture and heritage. Thus we have been forced to assimilate into "Western Society" which had a tradition of exploiting us, so no positive images there. Only negativity comes when one group of people is trying to justify what it did to another group of people.

Our country needs effective leadership which it is getting. Black people DO need "photo-ops of a nice looking educated black upperclass family" in the White House. We do need the fact that a black man can hold the highest office in the land successfully, to be a part of history. I think a lot of you thought President Obama would come in to office and suddenly everything would be different. Sorry people, in the real world things take time and you need to fight for what you believe in. Preferably you should fight WITH the people who believe the same as you do, not AGAINST them as a lot of you seem focused on doing.

I think that we must allow this president some leniency because this president had more thrust upon him than any other president. In order to bring about change, you must unite the people and we have many like Rush Limbaugh trying to be negative and play to those who hate blacks. That is crucial to working out the problems in this country. Also Change is not made overnight you must plant seeds and water and nurture it to grow and that takes time which is what he said on the campaign trail. He never promised that in 12 months it would be done, but there have been some improvements. When you improve things for all then each sub community gets helped as well. Any thing he does for the betterment of the poor and middleclass will also help blacks, hispanics, asians, etc. So ask yourself are you looking for Obama to just help you or would you consider that others be helped along with you

Eric Michael Dyson and others are looking at what President Obama promised on the campaign trail. Promises we will never see. Obama ran his platform on a promise to change. Well I have not seen any difference between other administrations and the Obama administration. We must hold Obama to the same standards that we would hold any other President. When I read the comments of bloggers like Sidney Saddler and Sammy I know that there are some who are all just too happy to have a black president and dont see that there is no change in american politics. Obama made a lot of campaign promises, but the country is still not moving in the right direction. Obama refuses to deal with issues of RACE, Guest Workers, immigration reform, judicial system reform.Unemployment is soaring and without jobs housing foreclosures are at record highs. Eric Michael Dyson and others are trying to be polite by saying Obama has only been in office for a short period of time, Im still looking for Obama's policies???? Our Country needs effective Leadership not photo-ops of a nice looking educated black upperclass family.

I am currently and have been since I was in highschool in the mid 90s a huge fan of Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. I generally find that I agree with him on most issues. However I tend to disagree with anyone who claims that the President needs to do more for "black people" in America.

I voted for President Obama because I liked his policies on national and international affairs. I liked his perspective coming from the bottom as it were socially. I did not vote for him to be a "Black President". It would be a lie to say that I didn't think about the effect he would have on my childrens lives. It would be a lie to say I am not more concerned about his legacy than I have ever been for anyone before.

The truth is that I want President Obama to be a great President of the United States, not a great "Black President". He does not need to cater to blacks or inact policies to specifically target the black community. He does not need to go out of his way to show us special respect. He respects the entire black community by respecting his wife and children. The policies he campaigned on will help the black community, the poor and the impoverished.

What I would like him to do is what I would like any president to do. Fight to achieve what he campaigned on. I cannot honestly say that, I would not have voted for him regardless. However I do like his policies and by achieving the goals he campaigned on he will do more for "black people" than any other president or politician in America past or present hands down.

So lets focus more on helping the man to achieve his campaign promises and let all these other expectations of what a "Black President" should do for us be left to the side for now.
