BIG ISSUE OF THE WEEK: PUBLIC OPTION OPT-OUT?

On this week’s show, Illinois Congressman Danny K. Davis will be sitting with Roland to discuss a new wrinkle in the health care reform debate — the public option opt out. This measure gives states the opportunity to opt-out of the public option at their choice. This measure, which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called “fair,” is already causing some waves and concern.
In a Huffingtonpost.com article, author Marlene H. Phillips notes that many Red states (those with conservative or right-leaning leaders) may opt out of the public option as a matter of principle and solidarity with Republicans who have been overwhelmingly against it. The article mentions Arizona, where Pres. Obama’s election rival John McCain is senator, and Texas as states that would likely opt out. Phillips notes that the move could be disastrous as both states have many uninsured who could benefit from the public option.

CRETE, IL is not an area of concern as much as the never-ending need to debate — just about every objection raised by the GOP. What’s to debate with guys who from the beginning acknowledge their fundamental differences and opposition to universal health care and the public option??
jonesboro,ga-I’m very concerned. I live in a state where the republicans don’t play. They are hard core conservatives and unconcerned about those who have different views. My fear is that they already have their finger on the opt-out button!
