DEMS UNVEIL HEALTHCARE BILL

It looks like the Healthcare issue is slowly but surely going to find itself resolved, at least sometime during this Presidential term.  Last week we saw the Senate Finance Committee approve a $900 billion dollar healthcare bill.  This morning, the Dems met on Capitol Hill to unveil their bill which includes a more moderate public option.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the Affordable Healthcare for America Act will allow affordability for the lower class, limit out of pocket cost, provide seniors with better benefits and much more. This expanded coverage will offer a moderate public option and will cover 96% of all Americans.  Nice! Even better, it’ll end discrimination for pre-existing medical conditions and won’t add one dime to the deficit.

It seems like this version will not only please the President but it really has Americans best interest at heart.  What do you think?  Do you like this version? Tell us here.

Be sure to submit your name and city!

LIVE NEXT DOOR TO THE OBAMA’S

Would you be interested in living next door to the Obama’s?  Well, for a mere $2 million dollars you’re most expensive dream could come true!  The neighbors next door to the Obama’s Chicago family home have put their’s up for sale.

While President Obama has only been to the home three times since taking office, he’ll be back once his four, maybe eight, years have passed.  If you can ignore the Secret Service and checkpoints, you may find yourself having a beer and watching the game with the Obama gang!

The house has 17 rooms and a good amount of land.  Who know, once the real estate market recovers, you could flip the house and bail out of the neighborhood.

What do you think?  Would you live next to the Obama’s?

IS PRES. OBAMA RESPONSIBLE FOR DEM. LOSSES?

President Obama must be having a pretty calm week because the big story of the day and possibly week is how he may or may not affect the two governor races that are taking place on the East Coast.  Political pundits are closely watching the races in Virginia and New Jersey and are already deeming a possible Democratic loss as a result of the changing public opinion of President Obama.

Its seems a feasible argument to suggest that if America falls out of love with President Obama then they’re probably going to feel the same about Democrats—just look at the Republicans after Bush.  However, is it also fair to assume that maybe the Democrats that are running for Governor just aren’t’ what people are looking for?

When is it appropriate to blame a loss on the President or do the candidates solely take responsibility for their campaigns?

SENATE PASSES HEALTHCARE BILL

Its official, the Senate Finance Committee has passed an $829 healthcare bill by a 14-9 vote.  Though the plan is expected to cover an additional 29 million Americans, the President stated that there is still much work to be done.

Sen. Olympia Snowe was the only Republican to cross party lines and vote for the bill which will reduce cost for poorer Americans and make it easier for small groups and individuals to purchase coverage.

What do you think?  Is this a good start or does Congress need to do more for poorer citizens?  Tell us here.

THE BIG STORY: HAMPTON CROWNS FIRST NON-BLACK QUEEN

Hampton University has made national headlines as news spread that the campus has crowned its first non-African American homecoming queen.  Newly-crowned HU senior and Hawaii native Nikole Churchill says she represents the multicultural change that has not only happened at Hampton, but across the world.  Churchill has taken the controversy all the way to the White House as she penned a letter to President Obama asking for his support.

Churchill wrote :

“I am hoping that perhaps you would be able to make an appearance to my campus, Hampton University, so that my fellow Hamptonians can stop focusing so much on the color of my skin and doubting my abilities to represent, but rather be proud of the changes our nation is making towards accepting diversity. People are even nicknaming me, “lil Obama” because of various reasons. This is truly an honor as well!”

While Churchill feels the only issue is her race, other students have complained that Churchill attends the university via satellite and doesn’t have a campus presence.

What do you think?  Should HBCU Homecoming queens be exclusive to African Americans?  Tell us here.
