In honor of fallen Civil Rights icon Dr. Dorothy Height, TV One televised coverage of her memorial service earlier today. Held at the Washington National Cathedral, speakers included Camille Cosby, Maya Angelou and President Barack Obama, who delivered the eulogy. Dr. Height’s body is to be buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Maryland.
Born in 1912, Height quickly became known as a champion for African American and women’s rights as she took part in monumental events that shaped the country, including the 1963 March on Washington. When she died, Height had been the leader of the National Council for Negro women for over 40 years.
