PRES. OBAMA MAKES HISTORY AGAIN!

If Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, R. Kelly is the self-proclaimed King of R&B and Bobby Brown is questionably the Kang of that same genre then it seems more than fair to crown President Obama the King of Political History.  How is that possible?  It’s simple. Not only did he become the First African American president; he has also been able to make history during his administration.

Think Eric Holder and stem cell research.  The most recent example is the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor.  Sotomayor is now the nation’s first Hispanic Supreme Court justice.  As a daughter of immigrants, she rose from a Bronx housing projects to become a well-respected legal professional.  She is officially a member of what could be the most historical presidential administration ever.

What do you think? Is Pres. Obama the King of Political History?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRESIDENT OBAMA!

Our first Black President, Barack Hussein Obama, is celebrating his 48th birthday today and wouldn’t you know it, his critics have something to say about it.

Namely that we can’t be sure that Pres. Obama is indeed 48-years-old or even a U.S. Citizen.

Known as the ‘Birthers,’ a small, but loud group lead by dentist Orly Taitz, this loosely affiliated group claim Barack Obama is not really the president because he’s not really from the United States.

Though widely dismissed by researchers, biographers and even the Obama campaign, who posted his Honolulu, Hawaii birth certificate online last June, the Birthers have ironically gained steam even six months into Obama’s presidency with the conspiracy theory that Pres. Obama’s certificate is false and that we was actually born in Kenya, his father’s country.

So, since it seems the President won’t be holding any lavish birthday events, The Daily Obama is saying “Happy Birthday” by putting this Birther mess down once and for all.

THE BIG STORY: CLINTON DEFENDS OBAMA

In a recent fundraising email on behalf of congressional Democrats, former president Bill Clinton defended President Obama and his attempt to push healthcare reform through. The healthcare debate has been yet another tug-of-war; while many believe it’s a necessary step to ensuring healthier Americans, everyone else is afraid of the price tag that comes with it.

In the email, Clinton pointed blame at the Republicans for stalling the process, stating “…Simply put, they’re at it again.”  What is he referring to?  If you remember correctly, both Bill and Hillary led an unsuccessful campaign to reform healthcare in the ‘90s. Both Clintons have had their anti-Obama moments but universal healthcare is one they all agree on.

Do you think the Clintons are only supporting Obama because of healthcare or do you think they are truly onboard the Obama express?  Tell us here.

NAACP CELEBRATES 100 YEARS!

It’s hard to believe that the NAACP is celebrating 100 years of existence.  Founded on February 12, 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People remains the oldest, largest and most recognized civil rights organization.  From its first response in 1908 to a Springfield lynching and race riot to the march in 2007 for the Jena six, the organization continues to fight for racial equality for all.

Their mere presence through history is enough to celebrate and that they are doing in New York.   For three days, various speakers will not only celebrate the last 100 years of accomplishments, they’ll also announce plans for work undone.  Among those speakers, President Barack Obama will address the theme of Civil Rights.  After all, it was the Civil Rights movement that helped America vote for its first African American president.

100 years is something that we should be proud of and something that we should celebrate all over.  100 years has seen a lot of change, yet even with President Obama in office, we are not blind to the fact that there is still much to change.  The NAACP is the backbone to President Obama’s ‘Yes We Can’ movement and now that we did it, its time to do even more.

What do you think?  What’s next for the NAACP and Black America?   Tell us here.

PRES. OBAMA & IRAQ

Party on, Obama says to Iraqis

U.S. troops withdrew from major Iraqi cities Tuesday, nearly seven years after the Iraq war started.  And the Iraqis partied: impromptu street celebrations, parades, fireworks, and a national holiday marked the occasion.

President Obama was all for the partying going on in Iraq. “The Iraqi people are rightly treating this day as a cause for celebration,” he said in remarks made at a community solutions event at The White House. “This is an important step forward, as a sovereign and united Iraq continues to take control of its own destiny.”

Not one to get carried away, however, the President warned that “there will be difficult days ahead.” He noted the deadly car bombing in Iraq that had taken place that very same day and the expectation that some violence in the country will continue.

Nonetheless, the President believes in Iraq’s ability to overcome forces working to thwart the country’s success as a unified, sovereign nation. “I am confident that those forces will fail,” he said.  “The future belongs to those who build, not those who destroy.”

What do you think of the Iraq situation?  Tell us here.
