The First 100 Days: Obama’s Biggest Moments #2

It’s day 101 for President Obama and to commemorate his first 100 days in office, we’re highlighting his biggest FIVE moments!  In case you missed them, go back and catch up: #5 The Obama Media Coverage, #4 The Eric Holder Move and #3 The Policy Changes!

Coming in at #2: Obama’s Muslim Message!

In dealing with a topic that is extremely sensitive for Americans, the President hasn’t diluted his intentions to bring some kind of ‘agree to disagree’ resolution to the American-Islam beef. Call President Obama what you want but for those anti-Obama supporters, you have to give the man credit for standing his ground.

He first addressed the Islam world during his inauguration address and again during his recent world tour.  That move was major! There are a lot of people who bite their nails every time President Barack Hussein Obama addresses the Muslim world.  Why?  There’s no secret that the President has been plagued by rumors that his Muslim ties go deeper than he’s willing to admit and although he is a practicing Christian—people are still a little iffy about it.

The President isn’t allowing that to scare him into staying away from the issue at hand and he’s not beating around the bush.  Unlike former President Bush, President Obama believes that if we open the lines of communication and find some common ground then we can find ways to prevent tragedies like 9/11 from ever happening again.

What do you think of Obama’s Muslim message and how would you grade how well he’s handling world issues? Tell us here.Image courtesy of reuters.com

The First 100 Days: Obama’s Biggest Moves #4

This week marks Barack Obama’s hundred days in office.  To commemorate this milestone, we’re highlighting his biggest FIVE moments! In case you missed moment #5, it was an official shout-out to the media for going above and beyond the call of duty to capture what could be the biggest American story ever!

Coming in at #4: The Eric Holder Move!

As President elect, Barack Obama was filling cabinet positions like he was playing chess; smart, cautious and well-planned. He wasn’t walking into the White House as the only African American making history; he brought Eric Holder on board and named him the first African American U.S. Attorney General.

What really makes this move major is that Eric Holder is willing to open the discussion on race matters.  Americans elected the first Black president yet race issues remain a sensitive topic and its one that Obama should not have to tackle alone.  At the 2009 Department of Justice African American History Month Program, Holder stated “Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards… To get to the heart of this country, one must examine its racial soul.  And yet, if we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another, and tolerant enough of each other, to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us.”

Eric Holder is really what the country needs, a Black successful man willing to share and listen in order to unite America.  For this reason, we think Holder was the right man at the right time.  It doesn’t hurt that his success will help open the door for other Black lawyers to have greater opportunities.

How would you grade Obama’s cabinet?  Was it historic enough?  Tell us here.

The First 100 Days: Obama’s Biggest Moments #5

We’re still pinching ourselves.  Barack Obama really is the President of the United States and this week marks his hundred days in office.  Here at The Daily Obama, we’ve been following him and his family for every big and swagger-filled moment!  To commemorate Pres. Obama’s 100 days in office, we’re highlighting his biggest FIVE moments!

Coming in at #5: The Obama Media Coverage!

One thing is for certain, the history books will never have a problem telling the story of the first Black president, his family and his term in office.  The Obamas have been featured on almost every television channel, newspaper, magazine, radio station, t-shirt and any other memorabilia item that you could think of.

Some of our favorite media coverage moments are First Lady Michelle’s cover of Vogue, her historic O cover with Oprah, her Mother’s Day Essence cover that she shared with First Grandmother, Marian and Michelle’s right-to-bear arms offical First Lady Photo.  Barack has been just as busy but he’s still cool enough to make history as the first sitting president to visit a late-night show and shoot the breeze with Leno.  Even cooler—his chest-baring Washingtonian cover!  It’s gets no better than that.

What do you think of the Obama media coverage and how would you grade the Obama’s handling of the spotlight?  Tell us here.

WHITE HOUSE SWAGGER: PRES. OBAMA GRACES WASHINGTONIAN

From Michelle’s sleeveless dresses to the welcoming of the new dog, Bo—all things Obama related is newsworthy!  With that, have you seen the new cover of The Washingtonian?  It features a very fit President Obama in his swim trunks during his Hawaiian vacation.  The President’s photo (taken by the paparrazi) celebrates the magazines #2 reason to love living in D.C.  What?  With all of that swagger, he wasn’t #1?

Anyway, the President is no stranger to similar photos being leaked to the media. His rock star and celebrity appeal have garnered more attention than even he may have prepared for.  Obama’s photogenic charm hasn’t been seen since JFK and seeing him walking along the beach and in top shape is a major contrast to Bush galloping on a horse with a cowboy hat.  It could be a sign of the times—change!

Whether he should have been #1 or not, his White House swagger is ridiculous and he puts all of us to shame.  He practically works a 24/7 job and still has time to look that good.

What do you think?  Should we be taking pointers from Barack?  Tell us here.

FROM HOUSE TO WHITE HOUSE

Kal Penn (House, Harold & Kumar) had to have been pacing his home one night asking himself “What Would Obama Do?”  Like the President, he has officially left a high paying job and promising future for not only public service but a major pay cut.  That’s why, here at the Daily Obama, we believe he’s made the biggest pimp move of the week.

To certify how official his move is, he didn’t just have himself written out of the FOX sitcom House, he had his character killed off.  That means he won’t even have the temptation of returning.  Instead, he’ll take on the position as an associate director in the White House’s Office of Public Liaison & Intergovernmental Affairs.

The 31-year-old actor says that he has always been interested in politics and that “the opportunity to serve in a capacity like this is an incredible honor.”  I guess he heard the President’s speech about “making a difference.”

Well, welcome to the “regular” work world Mr. Penn!

What do you think?  Would you leave a big paying job to be a servant of the people?  Tell us here.
