PRES. OBAMA ADDRESSES MUSLIM WORLD

“…let me say this as clearly as I can — the United States is not and will never be at war with Islam.” –Pres. Obama during his address to the Turkish Parliament.

In case you missed President Obama’s Turkish Parliament address—plain and simple, he’s not backing down from his stance on American-Islam issues. Instead, he wants to start the conversation—how to agree to disagree without waging war.

Though this isn’t the Presidents first shout out to the Muslim world (think back to his historic inaugural address), his directness with the matter is still very surprising and a bit uncomfortable for many.  Nothing new, he has long been targeted as an undercover Muslim and each time he addresses the American-Islam issue it’s as if people are anticipating his exit from the religion closet at any moment.

It seems like another excuse to ignore the larger issue at hand—we need to find a resolution. Since the 9/11 attacks and our war on terrorism, the tension between America and the Muslim world has been a sensitive matter. The President’s attempt to clean-up the mess is a necessity and comes at a fairly good time.

Who better to start the process than a man named Barack Hussein Obama whom Muslims may have a little more respect and patience with.

What do you think?  Is it time to find a peaceful resolution with Islam?  Tell us here.

THE POWER OF O

Barack or Michelle Obama gracing a magazine cover isn’t big news anymore or is it?  If you’ve ever seen a cover of Oprah’s O magazine, you’d know that Gayle’s BFF rides solo on every single cover—that is until she shared the April 2009 cover with the First Lady.

Here’s what’s mind boggling about this:

1.       it’s already gangster that Oprah splashes her face on every single issue,

2.       it’s kind of a pimp slap to the haters that she can switch it up whenever she feels like it,

3.       it’s great to see Black beautiful women highlighting and uplifting each other!

Oprah gets a lot of Flack for some of her actions (building a school in Africa), but no one can deny that she was one of the first Black leaders to support, endorse and promote the Obama team.  Oprah, Barack and Michelle are the faces of true hope and progress.  It could be fair to say that we’re beginning to see a new breed of Black leadership; younger, sexier and more powerful than ever.

What do you think about the O’s?  Are you thinking of giving your next child an “O” name?  Tell us here.

PRES. OBAMA SIGNS POST-PRESIDENT BOOK DEAL

Talk about planning for your future–President Obama recently disclosed that he reached an agreement weeks before inauguration to write a youth-oriented version of his published memoir and a nonfiction book after he leaves office.

The best selling author, who received royalties of $2.5 million last year, first released Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope.  With his two additional books not only is he set to make major money he’s also in the front seat of telling his story, his way.

What’s great about this?  The first African American President will be writing history from a Black man, husband and father’s perspective.

You may not agree with his every policy, but you definitely have to respect the man’s hustle.

What do you think?  Are you ready for the next Obama book?  Tell us here.
