PRES. OBAMA ADDRESSES MUSLIM WORLD

“…let me say this as clearly as I can — the United States is not and will never be at war with Islam.” –Pres. Obama during his address to the Turkish Parliament.

In case you missed President Obama’s Turkish Parliament address—plain and simple, he’s not backing down from his stance on American-Islam issues. Instead, he wants to start the conversation—how to agree to disagree without waging war.

Though this isn’t the Presidents first shout out to the Muslim world (think back to his historic inaugural address), his directness with the matter is still very surprising and a bit uncomfortable for many.  Nothing new, he has long been targeted as an undercover Muslim and each time he addresses the American-Islam issue it’s as if people are anticipating his exit from the religion closet at any moment.

It seems like another excuse to ignore the larger issue at hand—we need to find a resolution. Since the 9/11 attacks and our war on terrorism, the tension between America and the Muslim world has been a sensitive matter. The President’s attempt to clean-up the mess is a necessity and comes at a fairly good time.

Who better to start the process than a man named Barack Hussein Obama whom Muslims may have a little more respect and patience with.

What do you think?  Is it time to find a peaceful resolution with Islam?  Tell us here.

Islam is not the problem. The problem is radical Muslims. Rdical Muslims ideology is rooted in religion. How do you resolve a religous ideology without firt demouncing that ideology?

If you are not a Muslim, you are an infidel. What Obama is doing is cozing up to Muslims around the world in hope of reaching the radicals. Good intention but let us not for get the nation of Israel. You can’t be a friend of Israel and Islam at the same time.

Muslims believe in peace. The word muslim, translated means one who seeks peace. Those who make war or commit atrocities in the name of Islam are doing their own individual bidding, not the Will of Allah. President Obama is right to seek a peaceful approach.

Exactly my point. Muslims are peaceful. So, why “preach to the choir.” In meeting with “peaceful” Muslims he should use the same platform to denounce the “non-peacful” Muslims. Send a clear message rather than pandering. Good PR — but to who.

President Barack Hussein Obama is taking the right path in undoing the hate speech and agressive slanderings of the Bush administration against Muslims. Bush’s so called war on terror has been translated by everyday americans as war on Muslims. President Obama had to wipe the slate clean and establish his administrations relationship with the muslim world, reminding them that America does not hate all of Islam, but will stand firm against radicals who seek to destroy America. Job well done Mr. President!

Muslims are not the problem in any form. The non tolerance of Muslims are the problem. No one speaks ill of right wing Christians or radical Christians as such. Only Muslims are identified by religion and not by the individual. When Timothy McVeigh blew up governemnt buildings in Oklamhoma nobody said, “Look what the radical Christian did.”

It is illogical to assume billions of people think the same way because they claim the same faith. Christians have so many different denominations, it would be just as ridiculous to regard them as a monolithic group.

If Americans would take the time to simply read about people outside of U.S. borders with open minds, our global efforts would progress on an INFORMED, INTELLECTUAL level. There is simply no excuse to continue making broad, sweeping indictments of any human beings based on the actions of a few extremists!
