THE BIG STORY: GOPS WINS KENNEDY SENATE SEAT
In an upset that will kill the Democratic filibuster-proof majority, Republican candidate Scott Brown beat Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley for that state’s senate seat left after Sen. Edward Kennedy’s death last year. This marks the first time a Republican has won such a seat in Massachusetts since 1972.
With Brown in, it is very likely that the 60 votes needed for President Obama’s proposed health care reform will be blocked by Republicans who have, thus far, been essentially powerless to stop the measure.
TELL US: Do you think this loss reflects on Pres. Obama/Democrat’s reputation or just part of the political cycle?
This is a huge win. A Republican hasn’t held this seat in almost 60 years. This is a strong message sent to the Administration that the back room deals, high spending and taxing along with giving terrorists American rights will no longer be tolerated. This was done in Mass. A strong Democratic stronghold. In December Coakley had a 20 point lead.
This definitely affects the President and sends a message to any politician who backs his far left wing policies: you will be voted out.
Finally, the people speak and have been heard. Hopefully, there will be no more Democratic politicians telling the American public what’s good for them. This is what makes this country the greatest in the World. If this was Venezuela, Cuba, or China, has the Dems want it to be, things would have been different and the people would not have had a voice. 2010 will be a time of reckoning. Obama has really ticked off Americans. Ignoring the economy, pushing HC and cap and trade are just a few things that have really awakened a sleeping giant.
Thankyou TV ONE for providing a format for expression and dialogue. PRESIDENT OBAMA still has a few moves up his sleeve.BLACKS are learning how to do politics, and we are not intimidated. PRESIDENT OBAMSA knows what he is up against in the USA .
The Republicans are sore losers. Our LEADERS have sacrificed their lives to participate in the AMERICAN SYSTEM. The rules do not have to change for us. We will rise to the top in politics, like we rise to the top in other challenges.
A CHANGE IS GONNA COME!!!!!!!
Jean, not to pick a fight with you but: what? Please explain what you find so appealing.
Some where i bet Hillary Clinton is saying “Hee” ! “Hee” ! Cant do people wrong and expect to prosper ! That’s in the bible !
I blame Obama for this lost ! Why in the hell did he not get that health care bill passed sooner ?! He pussy footed around entirely to long ! And, now it is too late ! Too late ! Thank you Obama ! For Nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OBVIOUSLY –Putting people like you and others in your place. NOW PICK ON THAT!!!!!!!!
NO ONE IS TO BE BLAMED!!!
The people has spoken. This is DEVINE intervention.
The seat held for years by Ted Kennedy (The Ted Kennedy)was a sure win for the democrats. Power does not lies in the White House or the US Congress. It lies with the American people and the message here is — We will not be bought, we send you to Washington for our interest, we will not let you ram things down our throat.
OBAMA HAS BROUGHT REAL CHANGE TO
WASHINGTON.
He campaigned for New Jersey’s Governor. The result LOSS.
He Campigned for Virginia, Governor. The result LOSS.
And, not MA US Senate seat. The reult LOSS. I sense a recurring theme.
virginia’s governor. and now MA..
Wow ! I didn’t know that ?! Those three loses speak loudly ! No wonder for the sad look opon the democrats face tonight ! I knew it had to be something else going on because of the look of their faces ! Those damn republicans are going to get the house back in november ! The republicans are going to seek redemption opon us ! (african americans) Like my uncle always say, “It’s a mess” !
Opon us and Obama I mean’t to say !
Beautiful Nice going Massachusetts.
This whole health care process stinks. Not the concept or idea, but the execution. Democrats have messed this thing up from the jump, and they are paying for it.
To Melissa
Girl be nice (lol)
Rik, I’m trying too ! I’m really mad at Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama ! I allways said they were too arrogant for their own britches !!
And I also found out tonight that it was Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi that sabotoged Hillary Clinton candadcy. Pelosi and Reid talked Obama into running against Hillary because they thought that Hillary would destroy and lose the democrat election ! That in itself is low down ! That’s why I said what I said at my post 12:28 am. You will reap what you sow ! You can not do people wrong and expect to prosper ! That just isn’t going to happen !
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid is next. Game on !
To me Melissa, that’s Pres. Obama’s problem right there. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid! I think his own party is more his enemy than the Republicans!
Sure you right Ervin !
I am a die-heart Republican.
However, I think Obama would be a GREAT PRESIDENT if he didn’t have Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi breathing down his neck.
Candidate Obama promised transparency. This sham of a health care reform was filled with bribery, bak door deal. Where is the transparency Me president?
G.O.P ON THE COME BACK YAA
Melissa: Frankly because of all her experience I thought Hilliary was a better candidate. Further I’m starting to wonder who is in charge. In fairness to the President, he is not the front man, in health care (He should be), Reid and Pelosi appear to in that roll, and a lot of people are pissed with the process, not the idea. Just pissed period!
Practically every promise the President made regarding special interest, transparency, and bipartisanship, has been broken with careless disregard by Pelosi and Reid. When asked about his promise (transparency), Pelosi more less just blow it off.
The Presidents biggest problems are not from the republicans, but his own party. Reid, Pelosi, Axlerod and Emmanuel at the least may make Him a lame duck and at worst a one term President.
This year is his make or break year.
I live in Mass and I plan to move, they are all a bunch of MASSHOLES! first of all it doesnt matter now that we have lost the majority in the senate, the republicans were already planning to block EVERYTHING that Obama put forth becasue they dont want him to succeed in any way! cmon do you think they are gonna let a black man save the country! pahleeze wake up Black America and dont get it twisted, they want him to fail so they can vote him out and 4 years and be able to put in there history books that the good ole US of A had BLACK MAN for President JUST ONCE and look he didnt do a damn thing! wake up people wake up!!
White people win again ohh how exciting, someone get me a mini flag and some kit kats I really want to hear what homeboy has to say.
This is not a loss for President Obama..it’s more of a statement to the apathtic voters in Mass…their who care attitude has cost the Dem’s a seat and that’s only one seat…remember the guy who said, “you lie” to President Obama,,,he’ll pay and so will other R’s who have offfered nothing but negativity regarding health care…what is their plan…rhetoric—rhetoric..and some folks are buying into it!
Now is not time to whine…if you want or need good health care, get off your butts and call your representative and tell them that you are a voter and you deserve representationand they need to do some heavy lifting for the Country…not The President because he and his family already has health care!
Christianne Williams
“White people win again ohh how exciting, someone get me a mini flag and some kit kats I really want to hear what homeboy has to say.”
Stop the tired old race card!!!
Look at the Haiti, how many Black American do you see on TV adopting Haitian orphans? Where is Al Sharpton, Jessy Jackson and all of those who call themselves black activists? How is they can get on TV when some black guys (alleged criminals) is gunned down by a cop but a crisis like the hurricane in Haiti they can’t get on tv?
It’s not just the Mass voters ! You got the loss in virginia and new jersey ! You are a fool to not look at that ! Something is going on !!! Now, Obama is scared to pass the bill. WTF ?!
And where were all theses white people that are over there helping in hati when katrina hit ! White people didn’t help nearly in hati than the people in new orleans got ! WTf ?! What in the hell does that say ?! I’ll tell you what it says. White people would rather help other people in other countries than the poor people in their own country !
wakeup tombstone, get a life may123 and get off this blog because clearly you did not read the question, and melissa what are you? you appear to be lost!
I bet Hillary Clinton is saying this to Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the democratic party, “Howd you Doin” ?!
Shockadelica, I’m using my eyes and my ears. You should do the same ! You can be angry and be in denial that your opininon and this is mine.
shockadelica….I believe I read the question…problem is that, you seem to believe that you have the market cornered on opinions! Well, you don’t!
opinion. sorry ! Stock market down -152 !
Do you think this loss reflects on Pres. Obama/Democrat’s reputation or just part of the political cycle?
His reputation. The facts are he has campaigned for 3 straight candidates, and he is O for 3. He could not save a democrat in a state that has been dominated for over 40yrs by democrats. It wasn’t even close!
Buyers remorse.
we even have so-called brotha’s and sista’s cheerleading gop talking points!larry you don’t getit they want our president too fell!stop falling for the banana in the tailpipe!!the gop has a 40year history tipping the scale for white america!having a healthcare bill too help poor people is why there stopping it!90% of congress were born under segregation and were taught white is right and attack black!!!spite don’t have limitations too white america!!!so read the history of unbalanced politics!!!
they pushed these problems on tha president and washing there hands and not being held accountable for bush’s policies!white’s in america for the first time have a brotha at the helm and they don’t want too follow!it’s that simple!also, putting people in a federal court for crimes against america shows real democracy!timothy mcvay didn’t go too a military jail or the shoe bomber!stop feeding there monsters too attack the president!they want him too be a good negro so he want grow!!!people that didn’t vote should stop making comments!!!
President Clinton and his dutiful wife – HILLARY attacked HEALTH CARE in their first term in office. THEY BOTH FAILED. You need to ask somebody!!!!!!
They were eaten alive by the special interest groups. They never spoke on it again and CLINTON got lewinski to soothe his broken heart.
NOW -PRESIDENT OBAMA and all DEMOCRATS know what they are up against. There are no surprises here. President Obama is the true HERO. He has the guts to pursue against the odds.
Special interest groups – CAPITALISTS – have too much to lose. They are going to pull every dirty trick possible to stay in control.
OBAMA will slay the giant!!!!!!
i’m asking the die hard republican what have the gop done to stop the unemployment rate and racism in the work place targeted in the black community in the last 40years!!
CAPITALISM and ETHICS are mutually exclusive. Health Care reform and The Bankers have powerful interest groups – CAPITALISTS. That is why they say OBAMA is a socialist.
Capitalism was born on the backs of SLAVES and COLONIALISM. The Republican Party wants to continue this practice – IT IS PROFITABLE.
President Obama has attacked the STATUS QUO. He is in the FIGHT OF ALL FIGHTS. THIS IS TRUE CHANGE. Obama went straight to the heart his first year in office. The Republicans will eat him alive to preserve their interests.
PRESIDENT OBAMA needs supportand BLACKS must build an infastructure and community base groups in our communities in all cities and states to accomplish our goals. We have two special interest groups – NAACP, CBC.
They are not CAPITALSITS and they do not have any money. Do we need a poilicy to tell us to organize ourselves and pull our resources together?????
I think the health care reform bill will pass. It has to go through stages just like the civil rights bill did when it was first passed. The health care reform bill will be changed many times once it is passed to support the common good of the society. I feel strongly that we must protest, to support the president and the Democratic Party.
The health care reform is a humanity emergency. As I said on a earlier comment on this site, it is now the have and the have not. When I see the devastation in Hattie we are truly bless in American.

What policy/ies has/have the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT propose to alleviate the plight BLACKS IN THIS COUNTRY?
Be specific, please
I meant (Haiti)
OK, so some of you will never be in support of democrats. That’s fine. But, I still don’t get how republicans are the better alternative. Please don’t recount for me the colleges established for blacks during the 1800’s or that slave and plantation owners were democrats and ku klux klan members. What else is to be expected of the south?
To paraphrase Janet Jackson, “What have republicans done for blacks lately?” If you really want the majority of blacks to consider the republican party as a viable alternative, then you need to get some new representatives. The ones who’ve been most vocal have the affect of rubbing most black people like steel wool on skin.
Republicans have will not ever do something for blacks. This is the problem, The independents that voted for Obama in Mass last night and the ones who just voted in Virginia and new jersey for republican govs in those two states, Don’t care if they haven’t did anything for the black race !
Republicans will not ever do anything for blacks is what I mean’t to say. Sorry.
It’s the independents that voted for Obama in 2008, are the ones who are turning on him now ! If, and that is a big if !, they don’t vote democrat in this nov, obama is going to be a term president !
Obama is a Warrior. He was the only BLACK SENATOR. Jesse Jackson called him a NNNNN. Obama’s minister did not support him and alienated himself. Obama is a South Side Chicago Warrior.
He knows what he is doing. AT LEAST HE IS IN THE FIGHT!!!!!!! Not sitting on the sidelines complaining. HE WILL BE VICTORIOUS.
The DNC needs to assume a large part of the responsibility for last night.
They need to stay on top of every single election race. Coakley should have not been allowed to sit and assume she was going to win.
Second I would like to know what was the democratic voter turnout last night. Around 2 million registered Massachusetts voters did not vote last night. Coakley lost by around 100,000 votes.
The democratic voters feel like their job has been accomplished after the 2008 election. Little do they know that every election matters. President Obama is going to end up being a figurehead president if the democratic voters stay home and wait for 2012. They need to show up strong like they showed up in ‘08. There should to be long lines at every voting location in November.
Lastly, the GOP are very funny two-faced people. They sat and watched their president turn a surplus into a large deficit in 8 years. Now they are on the tv saying the current administration is spending big and adding to the debt. They started complaining the first day President Obama took office. I do not recall any GOP member getting on tv to complain about spending when their president was in office. They do not want President Obama to regulate Wall St. What has non-regulation gotten us from Jan. ‘01 – Jan. ‘09? They should continue to sit with their mouths closed and allow President Obama to fix this country. It’s going to take a lot of money to fix the 8 years of domestic neglect.
Yes this is a setback for Obama who is the defacto leader of the Democratic party. How the party performs reflects on the Party leadership. Losing this seat causes the Dem’s to lose the senate majority. This is a handicap for Obama to push any of his plans through the senate.
It is funny how republicans celebrate any set back for the current President of this country. The Republicans can identify all the problems but they have no solutions. The GOP’s idea of problem solving is blaming it on the Dem’s. We all forget what happened the last 8 years under GOP rule.
That being said I do not expect the GOP to anything for African Americans. I won’t say most Republicans are racist, but I will say most Racist are Republicans
true !democrats put us in slavery but the republican party follow those democrats!learn about the dixiecrats and what they swore afther lbj signed the civil rights bill!jesse helms made his own party and most segregationist bowguarded the republican party!my question was a comment also!too be in the party of the segregationist of the 20th century and black is brainwashed!economic developement slanted oneway they made excuses and pulled factories out of the cities too spite and invade taxes!stop slipping into whiteness and be american!open your eyes!
also, remember finding who’s on your side comes out threw struggle!

They still have a majority — 59-41. They are no longer fillabuster-proofed. If they couldn’t get anything done with 60 votes, how are going to do so now? Don’t blame the Republicans, the Democrats are inept.

Over the last eight years, the Democrats were praising the Republicans. (Sarcastic.) Politics 101, why point out the good of your opposition if you wish to govern!!!
Even today, the Democrats can’t bring themselves to tackle the problems of this country without BLAMING them on the previous government.
Don’t forget that 2006- 2008, the DEMOCRATS had the MAJORITY in both the Senate and the HOR. This say a lot about the Democrat when it comes to being in control.
NEWS FLASH: The economy began to collapse when Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Service Committee and Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Afairs.
There is whole of blame to go around.
“In his role as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee Dodd proposed a program in June 2008 that would assist troubled subprime mortgage lenders such as Countrywide Financial in the wake of the United States housing bubble’s collapse.
Condé Nast Portfolio reported allegations that in 2003 Dodd had refinanced the mortgages on his homes in Washington, D.C. and Connecticut through Countrywide Financial and had received favorable terms due to being placed in the “Friends of Angelo” VIP program, so named for Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. Dodd received mortgages from Countrywide at allegedly below-market rates on his Washington, D.C. and Connecticut homes. Dodd had not disclosed the below-market mortgages in any of six financial disclosure statements he filed with the Senate or Office of Government Ethics since obtaining the mortgages in 2003.

No, the viable e alternative is Independent
Now, I tell people if you want to vote democrat, first register as an Independent. This does not affect your national vote in anyway, but what it does do is alert Democrats that you are no longer on the ideological plantation. Also they can’t through you away for Mexicans, as they are about to do. They have to pay attention.
Second, it tells Republicans that your vote is up for grabs. It’s not, but no one needs to know that.
Why tip your hand to any politician before the election. Everyone knows how the majority of black folk are going to vote, thus democrats don’t work, and republicans don’t try.
From a personal stand point I get it, but from a business perspective, it is the stupidest shyt I’ve ever seen. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results.
Its about getting things for your constituency, its not personal.
This is a new day, not the 1960’s. You have people on this blog, who don’t understand politics, it’s not personal. Yes people are going to say, stupid things, but that’s both parties.Ive learned to stop being so damn sensitive.
Lots of folks advance the same ole ideas that have been around sense Moses were short pants. Hows that working out?
If enough Black folk would do it. That one simple action will send a mammoth political shock wave across the nation. But in order to do something so simple, folks have to change their way of thinking and get off the democratic plantation, and as you have read, many like being there. Many like being blind and loyal to the democrats. I’m not saying join the Republicans I’m saying do something different
The Congressional Black Caucus didn’t get a damn thing out of this administration until they the tried something different. They decided to play the same game as Ben Nelson, and Mary Landrieu, and viola look what happened, they got results. What have happened if the followed jeans advice.
Some would rather we just support the President because he is Black, or vote democrat because we have always have that gets you nothing.
So, stay if you want, me I’m off the Democratic Republican ideological plantations. Never going back.
Good job Massachusetts!!!!
Thank you TV ONE. We are provided this avenue to keep up with the pulse of the community. Let people talk and we can gain a lot of information. The beauty of 2010 is technology.
Well let’s not forget that it was Clinton who deregulated the financial industry in 1999 and got this whole mess started. Lets not forget that Obama received the 2nd most contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of any politician. That’s probably why he and Dodd stopped McCains’effort to reform FM and FM in 2005. Its in print. You can look it up folks. While you are at it look at the 9-11-03 NYT article how Bush wanted to reform FM and FM but old Barney Frank, who really should be in jail, couldn’t let that happen.
Anyway, look here. Obama is a straight up Socialist. If you look at the people he hangs around with, Bill Ayers and Valerie Jarrett, along with who he nominated for the czar positions etc. I mean these people are literally crazy. We have people who have wrote about population control by tainting the water supply, guys signing their name to a list stating Bush was in on 911, an education czar who thinks Harry Hay was a good guy( look up who Harry was)a communication director who believes Mao Tse Tung was a great philosopher and of course the latest bozo, who just resigned his nomination, who wanted to unionize the TSA. I could go on but I will stop.
This isn’t normal. Obama’s roots go deep. The question now is can he come to the center and govern. My answer is no. A leopard cannot change his spots. He is scheming right now figuring out how he can get around the will of the people. Ladies and gentleman that’s not a President of the U.S.
If you look on page 184 of his book The Audicity of Hope I believe you will see a reference to Saul Alinsky. Now what President ever has said anything positive about Saul Alinsky who wrote the book “Rules for Radicals” a book about how to topple a capitalistic system and cause chaos. Obama used some of the game plans from that book.
Now anyone of you backing this man above is this your type of President? Not to mention the other things that have happened with this guy.
Rik and K20 keep bringing it.
Careful Brother, you know whats next.
We are not black! We all have to think alike. You know, one big monolithic group of Negroes, incapable of independent thought or actions. Lord, please do not bring another perspective.
And for god sake please don’t articulate a cohesive position based on facts and not race, cause then you are White!
Speaking as someone who voted for the former president…we gave him eight years to govern…give president Obama a chance, he cares for the poor, and he actuually wants to help americans who were normally overlooked…the GOP claims to be the ones with Christian values, but doesn’t seem to care for the down and outers…health care reform is necessary; eventally it is going to cost us all. If that is the reason people in Mass didn’t vote for the democrat, they are short sighted.
Ann:
Not one Republican and for that matter not one single American said there shouldn’t be healthcare reform.
Some 40 House Democrats voted against the House Bill. And, although all 60 Senators voted for the Senate Bill, there were a lot of “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine.”
It is so easy to say heatth care reform. However, the devil is in the detail.
ANN — Democrats came up two bills, pick one. If the elected democrats can’t agree on a single Bills how should the American public agree.
My wife and I are proud of my eldest daughter (17 years). She is an straight A students. We are planning to get her her first car. My wife thinks we should get her a new car. I am for a $5000 or cheaper used car. One thing for sure we both want her to have a car. What we can’t agree on is how much to spend on the car.
Our disagreement is not about not wanting her to have a car. Similarly, the Republicans want Americans to have affordable health care just like the Democrats. However, the problem is how to go enact. Polls show that American don’t like the Democrats’ plan.
The Democrats want more government contol and the Republicans want less government control with regard to health care. The Democrats want to penalize Anericans who refuse to purchase health insurance.
What happen to choice and individual rights?
Nineteen years old, mother of three, high school drop out, unemployable. The Democrats said let pay for this mother health insurance since she can’t afford to. The children are automayically covered under the State’s CHIP program. Fathers of the children are underemployed/unemployable. So, the taxpayers of this country should foot the insurance prem for mother and fathers who can afford health insurance. This, is in addition to the food stamp and welfare check they are receiving.
We already paid for Medicare and public health clinic. In America, just because you can’t afford health insurance doesn’t mean you will be denied health care.
Democrats’ HC reform is all about socialism, government control.
k20, stop getting it twisted afther slavery there should of been universal healthcare!asking for big government that’s whats needed now do too capilist greed!slavery comes when it’s small government, real americans know there’s a dept too pay too desendent of slaves and the red nation!too make it seem helping a family in this climate of greed and unemployeement shows private bussiness have people blinded!companies fled real americans since the end of segregation!they’ve made quick money it’s goal not career based jobs!escaping taxes not giving americans health issurance, wage upgrades,or the right to collective bargain!factory jobs would have substained her balance too raise her kids plus the father would be abble too work and she would get child support with know drama!! Hey Larry, You seem to be pissing-off people as usual. I asked you a question before and you answered it well.I have another question, if you don’t mind, Mr. Brown won and “Now What?” There maybe many other Republican wins and they only seem to be set on stopping the President, while not proposing any solutions whatsoever consequently, nothing is getting done, nothing is getting accomplished. Back to my question…”Now what?”
Bottom Line!….it was a Message to the Dems that you will not! take our vote for granted I like others vote to send a loud! and clear! statement….Now Dems do! what we all sent you there to do!!!
Make……”CHANGE” we all…really! can believe in…..or this will be a one! term deal for the Dems.

It is obvious when individuals cannot dispute the merit of an argument they resort to personal attack. This is “KOOL” with me. It says a lot about such individuals.

Hey man good for you. folks like that, you gotta just let them be. There are folks who can debate you and respect you at the same time, and from that we all benefit.
The Republicans didn’t have to do anything. The Democrats are their worst enemy. They misjudged the American people.
People don’t you get it? Forward thinking Americans will NOT support backdoor deals, special favor, bribery in enacting legislation that affect us all.
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the far left in the Democratic Party are hurting Obama chances of being an effective President.
Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden were correct in suggesting during the campaign that Obama wasn’t ready to be Commander-in-Chief. Hillary and Biden are Democrats, not Republicans.
Where is the Transparency you promise the American people,Mr President?
The Bucks stopped with you, Mr President.
to K20: obviously the truth hurts , and RIK you are apparently the same!
@shockadelica
Yawn!
merit of a argument has balance for both sides!the gop has tipped the scale for white americans and the king tutz[tokens and uncle toms] of all races!making arguments too justify segregation and instutionalized racism has no merit!playing there game when they don’t have shame!radical thoughts freed america not robots with no mind !those who believe that the gop in the 21st century are helping poor and middleclass people or robots of there party!stop playing with these lames!they don’t know there history and they sure have short intention spans!read about the dread scott discussings!too say, real brotha’s don’t know politics, and we only attack with know argument is lame!the truth hurts for those that have been lap dogs of the bigeted obitunist!history is fact and take the facts of history!you don’t see nothing the gop done in the black community or trying too make a wrong right!making change is hard too think in 1 year 1year that the president going too change 400years of suffering get real! he’s trying the gop didn’t!this is the 21st century the gop is still talking about the past president’s that kept us in bondage from learning our rights going forward!we are the morale fiber of this country!if our people didn’t fight we would still be segregated more then we are now!points are made on this blog for future freedom not instagating tokens and lames!peace and love!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Rik you are right. I guess we ( K20,me and you) must be white. We must conform in order to be black. Don’t think so though.
Jaydub, now that both parties have been shocked I think you will see the Repubs put together plans that the American people can actually believe in. Everyone , politicians, are on notice. It just so happens that Dems are back pedaling and Repubs. are picking up momentum. It’s there time now to shine and hopefully they can keep it that way for a long time to come. Obama now must decide to either govern from the middle or continue his left wing, Stalinist type tactics. I believe it will be the latter. We cannot afford another WH that acts like this so Repubs better get it right.
There should be HC reform but not reform that bankrupts the country and actually destroys entire industries.
At the same time not even covering everyone, so there were some major flaws with this thing but the system and the people came through.

What else is to be expected of the south?”
On the flip side.
OK, some of you, Democrats will never be in support of Republicans. But I still don’t get how Democrats has helped us (Blacks) even they we have given them almost 100% of our support for YEARS and YEARS. That’s not fine!!
s/b even though we…
When are Democrats on this blog going to admit that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank et al are liabilities to Obama’s success – not Republicans?

CALLING RANCE AND SUMMER IN MN.
You take on the Republican winning in of all place MA.
Rik, you’ve made some good points. But this isn’t merely about hurt feelings. To become completely insensitive to comments that are at times, intentionally derisive, is simply living in denial. To use “Your mama” jokes as an analogy, for me, joining ranks with the republicans would be like participating in the ridiculing of my own mother: the joke is ultimately on ME. There’s a reason that the republican party attracts the likes of Rush, Glenn and their fans, and I can’t in good conscience align myself with them. I’m not convinced that these are good people who are only zealous in their love of country; their motivations are founded in beliefs that are much tinier.
However, I’m angry with my party right now because they don’t stick together when they need to, and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid don’t seem strong enough get the rest of the party in gear. I’d like to line up the dissenting dems and give them good swift kicks. I feel Howard Dean would have made a greater effort to motivate the the party to rally behind the president, if he were still the DNC chairman.
No, the democratic party is hardly perfect. But, before I’d walk away and even consider the independent party, I’ll write a few more letters to the DNC, expressing my dissatisfaction with their lack of leadership.
Marie, I don’t understand the meaning of your post, or why you’ve called out Summer in MN, who hasn’t posted to this page, at all.
Another Democrat throwing in the towel!!
Arkansas Congressman Marion Berry to announce he will not be seeking re-election this November. Second Akansas Congressman to call it qiut.
Why? The Obama factor?
Those of you who are republican seem to wear that as a badge of honor, as if being black and republican somehow makes you more progressive in thought. I’m basing that conclusion upon some particular statements made on this blog.
Two questions: What do you believe is the benefit of a republican victory to you and your family? If everyone else has it wrong in supporting democrats, then what are the positive reasons for supporting republicans?
Please don’t flip my questions and offer those as answers. I want specifics. For example, two of my reasons for supporting the democrats, despite their faults, is because I believe they acknowledge the diversity that comprises this country’s population, and demonstrate the need to implement policies that are all-inclusive.
Rance:
I am 46 years. The county I lived in for the past twenty-seven has been governed by Republicans. The county has one of the best school system in the country. Low crime rate(mostly home break-in) Two homicides within the last 27 years. The last one was 8 years ago. Thugs form outside the county invaded the home of vietnamese couple (immigrant who worked hard to educate their children) robbed them them and then killed them.
My Republican representatives are very accessible to their constituents. I conpared counties that have been governed by Democrats for years. They have some of the worse public schools, high employment, high crime rate.
This my personal experience. The saying going “if aint broken don’t fix it.”
I am of the view that democrats talk a good talk especially in regard to blacks but failed to deliver. Democrats believe that if you work hard and is successful (whites, blacks, etc) you should be penalized for those who are lazy (whites, blacks etc.) Taxed, Taxed, and the bigger the government the better.
(The positives for me of supporting republican in a nutshell)
@Rance
The fact that you even consider joining indy’s is admirable it it self, just simple consideration.
To your points:
“To use “Your mama” jokes as an analogy, for me, joining ranks with the republicans would be like participating in the ridiculing of my own mother: the joke is ultimately on ME.”
–I felt the same way. However you use mama as the analogy I use grandmama. My grandparents were denied their civil right by democrats. The ability to go to school, vote etc. These actions were felt by my mother and her sisters and brothers.
In some cases the remnants are still felt by my cousins. So to me, to join the party that oppressed my grand parents is as you say “ridiculing them”. You see we both can make the same factual argument.
“There’s a reason that the republican party attracts the likes of Rush, Glenn and their fans, and I can’t in good conscience align myself with them”.
–a. I do not suggest that you do I’m saying change the (D) to an (I). I would make the same argument to Larry and K20, and that is be open to vote for either party. One does not have to be aligned with either to vote for the other. Good ideas can come from either party.
–b. For example, the guys make a good factual point regarding education. Black Kids go to overwhelmingly bad schools ran by Democrats and unions. Democrats have long opposed charter schools and vouchers (see NY). We all complain about schools, yet vote for the very party, that is running these horrible schools.
I’m not convinced that these are good people who are only zealous in their love of country; their motivations are founded in beliefs that are much tinier.
–a. Don’t care. I work with and live by people with questionable motives and character. When voting we are going to find ourselves on the same side as people we don’t really care for.
–b. If i used the rational I would never vote democrat, I think Kieth Olbermann is an azz. But I will vote democrat, if it is a good idea.
My point is not to get you to vote republican, but to leverage what little power a/Americans have in that party. Larry and K20 are correct when they state, “that Black folk are being taken for granted”.
Its a bad marriage, where the husband (D) can do and say anything he wants, because he knows that when he gets home the wife (Black Folk) will be there waiting. Recent statements have made this point abundantly clear.
Yet, Black Folk just take it, because the alternative (republican) is unthinkable. I’m saying there is another choice, a hell of lot less painful, and much more productive.
Letters are great, and I applaud you for it. But if you really want to send them a message, send a copy of your old voter registration with the (D), and send them your new one with the (I).
You can still vote Democrat, but they do not have to know that. What have you lost by doing something so simple?
Correction
but to leverage what little power a/Americans have in the “Democratic” party.
you stayed in a sunset town!having a rosco p coltrain sherrif and a boss hog mayor town of course!people in those towns see no evil hear no evil!to say this was not instututionalize is why people make excuses to hate!you can throw a poisoned chicken in the crowd of the hungry and they will fight over it to eat!too make it seem your living better in a robot community that made sure they steal government money too substain the segregated community!you will see how, instead of helping all americans they cheated the system!voting matters right!only for white america!when slavery ended these same things were mentioned!there towns or better as long as i play there game! i can live in the blackside of there town [cross the tracks]!!when i get money to live in there hood make sure i’m one of the good acting negro”s and make sure he or she don’t bring there history here!black power scares me and make sure there christans!1st baptist followers no hollowing in church and sit in the back or balcony!please! i’m thru with the token talk!history don’t matter to these people!making a argument afther the facts or clear and still see protecting segregationist and hate!these is why real revolutionaries don’t apply to political arugments today!king tutz have no shame being the spook at the door and defending there oppressers!dixiecrats turned coated in the 50’s and 60’s so get your history staight!democrats your talking about are the same republicans children and grand children today!they made a pledge to destroy this union!lincoln republicans are the democrats of today!divide and conquer is there goal!!!!!republicans made it clear in this decade that big bussiness should rule no matter what the poor or so-called middle class think!helping the poor is the real way too measure a party!! so,how did the republicans help poor americans in the last 8year?
Here we go again!
Chris Matthews
“I forgot he was black tonight for an hour,” Matthews said of President Barack Obama’s speech before a joint session of Congress and to millions of Americans.
I’m not saying Chris is a racist or mean spirited, but well meaning or not, What if a republican said the exact same thing in the exact same context?
Again Democrats can say or do anything, and many well rationalize or justify their comments.
saying it like he said it was not racist!those who make comment saying if somebody else said it is!i understood what he meant!expressing he’s views of race and culture with race is how you accept the realness from people like him!i don’t know chris but, he expressed what he felt!talking about race is not wrong unless you have spite on your mind!i listened too what he said and it wasn’t racist it was observation of the moment!racist make arguments too say if a republican said it then what?stop making a observation a racial slur!if more whites would accept there misunderstanding about blackmen and women then we could have a talk about race,as long as you have spiteful people playing race games it want happen!!!!peace and love!!!!!!!
Again Democrats can say or do anything, and many well rationalize or justify their comments.
justify a segregationist real brotha’s don’t get caught in lies!my comment is simple not political!my question is a democrat of today has a open-mind too race better so then republicans!the king tutz[tokenz n uncle tomz] n klan ain’t going too change!republicans or mostly white hate filled segregationist and the color of there party are the tokens of today!stop being blinded by robot points that don’t have the real american well being in mind!the scale is for white america not the rest!they don’t go too no inner city town hall meetings!only brainwashed obitunist make comments to protect a hate run party!!!!!
Rance if I may:
K20 and Rik made great points. We are starting to see the Dems come apart at the seams. The rest of the party can’t follow Reid and Pelosi because Reid, Pelosi and Obama are just to far out to the left. They want to control the Internet, TV, HC, businesses etc. At the same time these people want to celebrate Hugo Chavez, Mao Tse Tung, Saul Alinsky and others. My goodness. This is America. This is very dangerous to the freedoms we enjoy today. The American people have spoken and that’s why the rest of the House and the Senate are scared too death.
