FIRST LADY AND GRANNY GRACE ESSENCE
It’s another cover for the First Family! Both Michelle and her mom, Marian Robinson, are featured on Essence magazine’s Mothers Day cover. It’s a good look for the magazine and a great look for Black mother/daughter relationships in America.
While Michelle says she wouldn’t be able to do half of the things she does if her mom weren’t around to help with the girls, Sasha and Malia, it’s her mother’s comments about the First Lady that touch a soft spot. On her daughter, Mrs. Robinson states, “Michelle has always been Michelle. And she has always accomplished whatever it was she set out to accomplish, I have always looked up to Michelle because she has been able to do things that I couldn’t do emotionally, psychologically or physically. I think she is amazing.”
It’s not only good to see a positive relationship between a mother and daughter; it’s also good to see the possibilities of what a family who works together can achieve. Their relationship is a great example for Black families who may be struggling and have lost sight of dreams coming true if they keep at it.
Marian and Michelle’s relationship is another strong Black symbol and its impact could spill over into Black families everywhere.
What do you think? Do these two make you want to have a better relationship with your family? Tell us here.
