PRES. OBAMA TAKES ON DRUGS & MEXICO

As President Obama heads to the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago, he leaves promising to tackle US drug problems that are a direct link to Mexico.

Drugs are an American problem and have had a major impact on Black communities across the country.  While local officials are failing at policing the problem in communities, the president’s desire to deal with the problem, despite his already overwhelmed agenda, is a reality check for us all.  We may have to start with our borders and work our way in to the communities. It’s no easy task.  How will we stop a substance from making its way into America when we can’t stop immigrants from walking into the country and building new lives?

It’s an issue that is often forgotten and overlooked but the necessity to sweep and rid the country of illegal substance is overwhelming.  Accomplishing this task could benefit the nation overall by resulting in healthier Americans and families.

Why start now?  Well, with the amount of job and home losses, you can expect depression to result in a crime and substance abuse increase.

What do you think? Are drugs a major US issue that is often overlooked?  Tell us here.
