THE BIG STORY: Pres. Obama Appoints 1st Hispanic to Supreme Court

How much history can one president make?  Apparently a lot, because President Obama has been consistently checking off his list of historic things to do. In his latest historic move, he has appointed Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court.  If confirmed, Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic and third woman appointed to this position.

While accepting her nomination Sotomayor stated, “I hope that as the Senate and American people learn more about me, they will see that I am an ordinary person who has been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences. Today is one of those experiences.”

Aside from the historic nature of this appointment, Obama’s decision to choose Sotomayor is another example of the kind of people he takes a liking to.  Sotomayor is the daughter of two non-English speaking parents who settled in New York from Puerto Rico. Sotomayor was raised in a Bronx housing project but with hard work and dedication, she later graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University and went on to attend Yale law school.

Most appointments aren’t smooth sailing for anyone, but a recent CNN poll has most Americans (68%) approving the Presidents decisions.  So what do you think?  Do you agree or would you have preferred someone else for the job?

Why couldn’t Barak dominate a Brotha? We need a real Black Man on the Supreme Court for a change instead of Clarence “Uncle” Thomas.

Real Black Man? How absurd!! Here we go again with the “Uncle Tom” nonsense. Like him or not Justice Thomas overcame the same obstacles most blacks in this country experienced to be a member of the highest court in the country.

While many are ready to claim President Obama as their own — Why not ask yourself is he a “real black man.”
