while promoting funding for college education, hasn't this administration restricted/cut funding(scholarships) for charter schools? aren't basic educational skills needed to achieve a higher education? or is this related to pleasing the teachers' unions at the risk of our children?? while more $$$ has been poured into education/schools.....more teachers complain that the funds do NOT reach the teachers & students for neccessary supplies.

It is critical that more young black men enter the teaching profession if America is going to impact and see change in the education of young black boys. That is truly the first step igf we are to see education reform among this target population. First we must motivate black boys to even want to come to school and seeing professional Black teachers in classes where they are taught is moving in the right direction.

I agree with Heyward, children seem to listen to men more than women, and it good for young black men to see strong professional black men in their everyday life. The same goes for young black women seeing strong professional black women in their everyday life.

Roland,
I need direction on how to get the funding for my before and after school program. I have had this for years to be the mother of education for the little ones. I want to be the sub mom for the children who don't have the support of their parents, for whatever the circumstances might be. Similar to what you and your done for your nephews and nieces. I want to do it for the community. I would like to start in 3rd Ward. I want to help and it will be a great success because I just have that connection with children. I have 4 great men that I raised with their dad. When their and quit I told him I don't want child support just keep food in the house and take them to church every Sunday. And he did,but when my sons said mama you making us out of girls yall right then dad took over. I can say I have great citizens of the USA. 1 went Army honorable dc,2 college grads and 1 this year will be a grad from Uof H. If I did it for mine I can do for many. Thank you for being you. I listen to you on Tom Joyner Show now I'm looking at you on TV. May God Bless you and keep you and yours.
                      Sincerely,
                      Marva Fant

Roland,
You have a great show, keep up the good work , fair and balanced on both CNN and TV1.
The President is doing a great job. Maybe I am just a mother, widowed after 43 years of a happy marriage; raised three children in my care and a host of others.

If the schools are failing the children, why give them more money? There are many good small businesses and organization that cannot get needed fund or contracts. With so many professionals out of work why doesn’t the President put them to work helping new project get through the red tape?

To create long term employment and jobs is what we need. Not just a quick fix! In the last Presidential Election we voted for CHANGE! I have a great plan but can’t get anyone to listen. Maybe you can give me a call, tip name. MeMETX

Does this show that Pres. Obama does have a specific plan for African Americans?

No, but still I don't mind giving credit, where credit is due.

But I'm confused. Early in 2009, wasn't there an 85 million cut for HBCU's?

Well whatever, they could use the financial support.

Good for the administration.

I really don't think it has a lot to do with black or white teachers, but the determination of the black students as a whole. I agree we are losing some black boys. Have the roles of survival changed in the single parents homes because of the economy. I am not a teacher, but I a proud black woman who have taught education and the lack of knowledge determines your future.

I propose that Black boys (the largest group at risk) be taught by qualified Black male teachers in their formative years in school. It's clear that the majority of White teachers cannot teach successfully Black male students. By the 3rd or 4th grade these students have become disinterested in learning, become behavioral problems then placed in Special Ed where they are doomed for life. Some call call this racist, I call it survival. We tried all other methods and they have failed. Desperate times call for desperate measures and we are desperate because we're losing our young Black boys and not helping them become intelligent, productive Black men.-- Thank you
