SOLANGE LOSES MAJOR LABEL DEAL

THE FACTS
Solange has been dropped from her record label.
THE SPIN
Though her sophomore effort showed evidence that she’s grown as both a songwriter and performer, Solange failed to make any real gains with music buyers. Granted, she’s gained some fans but not as many as some at her now ex-record label would hope.
I remember the week Solange dropped Sol-Angel and The Hadley Street Dreams
This interview happened, and needless to say, without a big hit at radio to deflect from the negative press, Solange didn’t get to enjoy that M.I.A. like slow build up to success the way Geffen records envisioned.
Months ago it had been reported that Solange was dropped by her label for disappointing sales. Her pappy denied it, but it’s since been reported that she indeed was given the heave-ho months ago.
A rep for Music World told BV Buzz:
“Solange felt it necessary to go with a smaller, independent label that focuses more on the alternative genre, one that reflects her music style and artistry. Solange is working on a new album and the label will be announced shortly. The relationship with Interscope is excellent and the current album, ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams’ is still being worked through the Music World/ Interscope joint venture with consistent weekly sales.”
Yeah, whatever. Here’s an example of Solange’s potential:

I’ve heard some of Solange’s work and she could make it. I don’t expect her to be like her big sister Beyonce nor should she try. She should find her own niche and run with it.
Just personal opinion.
It called “Show Business” if you can not sell albums then you get dropped.
Berry, we agree on something for once. It is about selling records. From what I’ve heard, Solange isn’t even a marginal seller.
Too bad because I actually prefer her style of music to her sisters but Bey sells, Solange doesn’t. Very few can sell that style of music.
I like Solange’s music. Geffen Records should have made more of an effort to promote her music. Her records would come out with no publicity nor promotion. I never knew she had new music until I saw her on a music video.
I liked her ‘T.O.N.Y.’ song, and would’ve liked, ‘I Decided’, except I thought the music quality sounded really cheap on that one, like someone was playing a toy piano with feet.
It’s sad because this last album she did was awesome she used a lot of live instruments. I loved it. Solange is actually a very creative and talented young lady. I say she should take the independent route.
I agree with you Rance. I thought T.O.N.Y was a good song. It is really sad that her dad does not put time in on her. I mean of course she will not be Beyounce, but dang help her out some kind of way.
Solange is AWESOME! As someone who is musically talented and appreciates GOOD and soulful music, now don’t get me wrong I’m no artist, but I personally love her music and style. The fact that she is not like everyone else draws me to her music and I will continue to be a fan…it is what it is! She will make her mark and just needs to be with people who understand her creativity.
