THE IRS TO NAS: ‘HAHA, MADE YOU LOOK’

THE FACTS
Nas owes over two million in back taxes.

THE SPIN
I don’t know why celebrities try to entertain tax evasion. The government always gets their money. Wesley Snipes learned his lesson, Method Man is currently being taught his, and now Nasir is entering the class.

TMZ obtained a federal tax lien filed last month against Nas for a $2,584,206.31. Mr. Jones failed to pay his taxes in 2006 and 2007.

In others words, Nas is a slave to a page in Uncle Sam’s rhyme book.

I wonder will this tap into Kelis’ alimony and child support.

Either way, this one goes out to you, Nas:

KELIS WANTS EVEN MORE MONEY

THE FACTS
TMZ reports that Kelis and her attorney are requesting additional alimony from Nas.

THE SPIN
So I’m not going to chime in with Method Man and Redman’s misogyny-inspired rant about baby mamas milking their men for all of their money, but isn’t over $50,000 a month in child support and alimony more than enough for someone to live off of?

Apparently not if your Kelis and her attorney, Laura Wasser.

TMZ reports that the two have reviewed Nas’ financial earnings, and based on their findings they conclude:

– Nas pulls in $244,826 a month
– Kelis rakes in a relatively paltry $13,744 a month
– Kelis should get child support totaling $17,225 a month
– Kelis should get spousal support totaling $72,728
– Nas should pay retro child support totaling $29,522
– Nas should pay retro spousal support totaling $281,571

Really? She deserves that much based on two years of marriage and a baby who currently requires breast milk for meals?

IS GOOD BLACK MUSIC DEAD?

THE FACTS
A new video taking shots at certain genre’s of rap has hit the Web.

THE SPIN

I’m guessing I’m supposed to feel angry now and get the urge to stand up and say, “ENOUGH!”

Yeah, I’m not. There’s an art to making a point. An art Nas still has yet to master (ya’ll remember his album that was supposed be called, “N—er”).

Though this clip is intended to be provocative after it ended I was left wondering what the point was supposed to be.

Oh, hip-hop is bad, and judging from the stereotypes, it’s all of us country folk “down south’s” fault.

For a while now, I’ve read people complain about the stanky legg, the Halle Berry, the booty dew (OK, even that one throws me off), but for the most part, none of the people complaining have offered a viable alternative.

And I think that’s the difference between now and the times people seemingly yearn for.

Do I think hip-hop is at its best? No. Do I think every southern dance or materialistic line is contributing to the destruction of Black people? Hardly.

Hip-hop’s embracement of the mainstream and corporate backing started in the 90s, not last year with the “Superman.”

For me the issue has always been about balance – i.e. we no longer have any.

So yeah, while I don’t agree with Nas’ way of going about it (blackface…really?), I suppose he has point.

But how do you feel? Black music has never seem to have been so sucky, but what can we do about it? I’ll stop hitting the Bobby B. long enough to hear out your answers.
