Solange has been dropped from her record label.

Though her sophomore effort showed evidence that she’s grown as both a songwriter and performer, Solange failed to make any real gains with music buyers. Granted, she’s gained some fans but not as many as some at her now ex-record label would hope.

This interview happened, and needless to say, without a big hit at radio to deflect from the negative press, Solange didn’t get to enjoy that M.I.A. like slow build up to success the way Geffen records envisioned.

Months ago it had been reported that Solange was dropped by her label for disappointing sales. Her pappy denied it, but it’s since been reported that she indeed was given the heave-ho months ago.

A rep for Music World told BV Buzz:

“Solange felt it necessary to go with a smaller, independent label that focuses more on the alternative genre, one that reflects her music style and artistry. Solange is working on a new album and the label will be announced shortly. The relationship with Interscope is excellent and the current album, ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams’ is still being worked through the Music World/ Interscope joint venture with consistent weekly sales.”

It’s been alleged that the woman Mathew Knowles has been accused of impregnating received a job she was unqualified for at Interscrope records.

THE SPIN
Papa Knowles, you got some explaining to do.

According to the YBF, Alexsandra Wright – the 30-year-old woman who filed a paternity suit against Mathew Knowles – got a job as Marketing Director at a record label thanks to Mathew.

Via the YBF:

A very credible employee at Interscope (who works with many of the YBF artists featured on this site) tells us that no one in the office knew of her and was shocked she came in at such a high position.  Alex had little to no experience in marketing and all her previous jobs were short-lived and pure fluff.  She even had an entire year of work missing from her resume.  So how did she land this gig?  We’re told it was Mathew Knowles who persuaded Interscope execs to hire her!  Well after Geffen (Solange’s label home at the time) and Interscope merged.  Coincidence?

Even better, we’re told the staffers at Interscope were at their wits end with Alex because she was always overly dramatic and never knew what she was doing.  Our source tells us:

“She just wasn’t ever competent for the job.  Bottom line.”

Alex was fired from Interscope in March after only working there a very short while. 

Oh Mathew, don’t you know what a non-disclosure agreement is?

How about the term “pay off?”

If this is all true and Mathew’s indeed the father, how long will it be before “Alex” is pitching a reality show to networks?

Mathew Knowles will teach a course on the entertainment industry at Texas Southern University.

Ever wondered how Mathew Knowles came to prominence?

Yeah, you know how he took his daughter’s talent and gathered ‘round some of her playground homegirls and turned them into a music group.

But do you know what he did after that? Possibly if you watch enough E! and VH1, but I’m guessing Mathew’s got some more tips to share since he’ll be teaching a class this fall.

Indeed, Papa Knowles will be teaching an undergraduate course entitled “The Entertainment Industry” through Texas Southern University’s School of Communication.

Beyonce’s daddy graduated from Fisk University in 1974 with dual degrees—a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration. He once taught a course at Fisk.

Dr. James Ward, dean of TSU School of Communication said: “Students who take Mr. Knowles’ class will truly benefit from the many relationships forged with the School of Communication. Our goal is to provide these students with such a well-rounded experience that they will graduate on the cutting edge of the entertainment and recording industry.”

If I were you, I’d never mention the names LeToya, LaTavia, or Farrah. You might want to whisper Kelly Rowland’s name just in case. Other than that, bring your A-Game and a copy of “Solange Knowles & The Hadley Street Dreams” and get your learning on this fall.
