OPRAH: ‘I IGNORED PRECIOUS, TOO’
THE FACTS
Oprah spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what drew her support for the film, Precious.
THE SPIN
My personal Goddess, Oprah, said Precious had a profound effect on her.
She said she sobbed uncontrollably after watching the much-buzzed Lee Daniels film because she realized she turned her back on teenagers like Precious. That’s what prompted her to sign on as an executive producer in order to spread the word about the film.
As she told Entertainment Weekly:
“I realized that, Jesus, I have seen that girl a million times. I see that girl every morning on the way to work, I see her standing on the corner, I see her waiting for the bus as I’m passing in my limo, I see her coming out of the drugstore. And she’s been invisible to me. I’ve done exactly what the people in this film did to her. I’ve seen her and not seen her. And I thought, ‘That will never happen to me again.’”
I’m tempted to fly out to Chicago and slap on a fat suit and a lace front if it means Oprah might pass me up at a bus stop and want to give me a ride to the promise land (Harpo Studios).
For those of you who were unable to see the film last week, it’s out on wide release today.

I was always nice to the underdog, I always reached out to people that everyone ignored or was mean to for whatever reason, so I would have to say that I treated them like they were very visible and with respect like they deserved
Sorry to say, I have been Precious (aside from the abusive mom) and even known some. It does make you think how many people that could’ve enriched your life we have passed over because they were different somehow.
I treat people like human beings like they are.Iam also for the underdogs like the girl in school who always got picked on or just when people judge others i always try to put my self in there shoes.& like my mama says treat people the way you wamt to be treated.
Nicole Amen!! I have never treated any one different because they were different in some way. I always listen to what my grandmother told me “Treat people like you want to be treated regardless.
I reach out all the time to all kinds of people because I know how lonely it can be to be ignored or overlooked. No one deserves to be treated bad or less than because they are different. We may not be able to treat everyone the same, but we can and should treat everyone right.

You need to let go of all the baggage, you are treated the way you are, because
you dwell on negativity. Stop doing evil for evil trying to get even with folks who have said things to hurt you. Your only inflicting pain on yourself. We all have been victims of circumstances.

BTW: I remember being mean to people while I was in pain. I do recall at times I was the victim. I laid my burdens down at the altar and left them there. The world is full of evil, but if we learn how to pray for others in the world, God will forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against thy devine majesty.
In other words, we are challenged every day in our conduct towards others. Trying to build on a better understanding.

I read the book “Push” and plan on seeing the movie real soon….I have to say that after reading the book and seeing the movie trailer, I regretted how I treated people like precious and have asked God for forgiveness.
Only thing I have to say is it’s a shame the way we as people treat each other. I have not seen the movie yet, but plan on seeing it soon. My goddaughter has the book to do a book report. I will read it as soon as she finishes it. I can relate to Precious in so many ways.

I was and am the precious of this world I have always been that fat girl that people looks down on as if I’m not good enough. This movie may help the people of this world know that we are someone and that we have feelings too.
I was precious. A light skinned precious and it was hard. After I lost weight, finished college(top of my class at that), dated and all that,I still feel like a loser most of the time. I was called horrible names by everyone except my mother and younger sister. Older sister beat me, dad called me every name in the book, as did most people. Through God I save myself, but I still hurt everyday. There are a lot of Precious’ in thie world, especially in the Black community.
It’s about time I lost respect for her when she made those comments to Mary J at her ceremony she had honoring black women now apologize and all is well
