KELLY BREAKS FROM MATTHEW

THE FACTS
Both Kelly Rowland and Mathew Knowles have released statements confirming that Knowles is no longer Rowland’s manager.

THE SPIN
I never thought I’d see the day when I’d hear that Kelly walked up to Mathew and said, “Give us free.” But this is the year of change, and even K.Ro is getting in on it.

Here’s the joint statement from Kelly and her ex-manager confirming the split:

“After a very positive meeting between Kelly Rowland and myself, we have amicably agreed to end our professional relationship. My company, Music World, will continue to manage Destiny’s Child as a group. As an artist Kelly has incredible talent and I only wish her the best. We will always be family first and foremost, and as a dad I only have love for Kelly.” —-Mathew Knowles

“Mathew Knowles has been a positive influence in my career. I have had great success under his guidance — both as a member of Destiny’s Child and with my solo projects. Although we have decided to part ways professionally, the Knowles family and the entire Music World Entertainment team will always be my family.” —Kelly Rowland

There’s only two ways this can go: Either Kelly does really well on her own or she ends up a judge on some second tier dance show. Hopefully, it’s the former, but personally I never blamed Mathew for Kelly’s lackluster career stateside. Maybe now that she has new management, she’ll start promoting her own projects on her own time and finally get the solo career she deserves.

IS RIHANNA THE NEXT ANGEL?

THE FACTS
Sci-Fi Wire reports that producers are considering Rihanna for a role in the next Charlie’s Angels film.

THE SPIN
Nancy Juvonen, one of the film’s producers, wants actresses to start pitching for a role as the fourth angel in the franchise’s fourth installment. She told Sci-Fi Wire, “I’m having a Rihanna fixation myself.”

No offense to Rihanna, but she’s about as interesting on stage as a paraplegic in a dance contest. Not to mention, it’s kind of hard to make out what she has to say sometimes. OK, most of the time. I’m sure she’ll look beautiful on screen, but I’ll probably need subtitles. Considering artists make about as much money as a Ford car dealer these days, I can understand why Rihanna wants to start acting even if it’s at the expense of taking roles from trained actors. Besides if Beyonce can go after an Oscar (stop laughing – it may happen, ya’ll), why not Rihanna.

AALIYAH MOVIE NEWS

THE FACTS
The New York Post reports details on the upcoming Aaliyah biopic.

THE SPIN
Here’s what Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) had to say about the upcoming Aaliyah film:

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have (Keisha) Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez.”

I love Aaliyah, but do we really need a movie about her? Even though Notorious was enjoyable (for various reasons, mainly the acting), there seems to be a lot left out of the true story given recent interviews by Charli Baltimore. And as we all know, Aaliyah was very private, so will this film talk about her marriage to R. Kelly and relationship with Dame Dash?
