UPDATE: Joe Jackson Speaks

After taking some heat for his seemingly nonchalant appearence at the BET Awards, Michael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson, spoke publicly about his son where he expressed his appreciation for the world’s outpouring of love and support. Jackson also said that he was very “proud” of his son and noted that Michael “tried his hardest to please everybody.”

Earlier, he told CNN that his lack of outward emotion about his son is because he “cries on the inside.”

ANOTHER ACTOR TURNED SINGER

THE FACTS
Columbus Short is recording an album.

THE SPIN
You can add Columbus Short to the list of multi-tasking entertainers. The former Britney back-up dancer-(and almost side piece)-turned-leading-man is now ready to get his croon on.

I think Columbus is a great actor, and if he can channel a fraction of that charisma as a performer as he did playing Little Walter in Cadillac Records then he may have a chance.

That is, so long as he doesn’t sing like he’s got strep throat or join the bandwagon of Michael Jackson wannabes.

Check out this clip of Columbus embracing his inner J.Lo below:

DMX TALKS ABOUT MAKING MUSIC

THE FACTS
DMX spoke to VIBE about recording new music.

THE SPIN
Well now that he’s worked himself out of going back to jail, DMX is trying his hardest to get back on the charts.

Your favorite correction officer’s least favorite inmate told VIBE:

“I’m working on the album right now. Getting this s–t done. I got a few more songs to go. I got a crazy joint with Sean Kingston. F–king sick, yo. Fire. And I got some s–t with Swizz that’s ridiculous. I just hit Kanye West the other day for some beats. Also, the same people that I been f–king with, like Dame Grease. I’ve been working on this project for so long, I forgot who else gave me f–king beats…I wanna shut n—as the f–k up! I’m still on probation, so it is what it is. I’m just working man. That’s where my focus is, work…Hopefully [the album comes out] this year. I’m just getting it done. The release will be in the hands of the powers that be.”

It’s like the year of the ex-addict (or addict, depending on who we’re talking about) in music. Eminem dropped an album, I see posters for Whitney’s comeback album all around town, and now, DMX is trying to bark and growl on beat again.

I’m glad he’s getting back to what made him the fortune he squandered on dogs and drugs, but I don’t know, I’m more interested in seeing him pasS a drug test versus zooming up the Hot 100.
