RIHANNA REFUSED THERAPY?

THE FACTS
Rihanna says she refused to go therapy after her beating from Chris Brown.
THE SPIN
For those of you who suggested counseling for both Rihanna and Chris Brown following their fight earlier this year, Rihanna would like to say thank you, but no thank you.
In an interview with the Scotsman newspaper she said cultural differences just won’t allow her to sit on anyone’s couch trying to make “sense of it all.
She said:
“Everyone wanted me to see a therapist to just talk about it, and I refused. In Barbados, we don’t do that. We keep it in our family and figure it out and move on.
I put my game face on and went on with my life. Deep down inside I had some things to get past and it came out in the music. As traumatic and as terrifying as it was, whole life changed in the most amazing way after I went through that.”
But she admitted that she initially didn’t want to get personal with her music, adding:
“It was exactly what I tried to stay away from. When I was about to start the record, that was the first thing I said, ‘I don’t want no sad songs. I don’t want no songs about love.’ I turned away eight ballads: ‘I don’t want to do that, that’s totally expected.’ ”
Yeah and the unexpected isn’t selling for her.
In any event, while she has every right to decline therapy does this send a bad message to young people who need to discuss the anger, fear, lack of self-esteem and other issues associated with domestic violence? I can’t help but think she’s missed an opportunity to start a movement that would get feminists behind her. Had she spoken more openly about what all happened (and much sooner) I imagine she’d have more supporters. Plus, like help people or something. If she had done all of that she would have set herself up for credibility/substance her talent alone would’ve never netted her.

Hey man! I think you have the wrong question for this forum as I don’t think Rihanna’s a mistress! LOL!
Now, to the subject, she does have the right to refuse therapy BUT its a bad move because she’s not over what happened. Plus, I do think if she was more honest about what happened that night and what led up to it, I think people would actually be more sympathetic to her. I think the mainstream is sick of Chris Brown and her to a degree.
Bottom line is she needs to take care of her own well-being, even if it means stepping out of the spotlight for a bit.
Rhianna is a mistress? To whom?
I see Michael Arceneaux is hard at work again. Not! This is lazy reporting. You might as well hire some teenager who sit and read other gossip column’s and twitter accounts of gossip.
TvOne is this the best you can do?
Must be a slow news day for the writer of this worthless piece of information…move on….!
Can we please move with the Rihanna and CB issues. It’s boring and tiresome.
are u kiddin me? another rihanna blog? pahleeze, NO COMMENT!
She needs to seek therapy because if she doesn’t know what her problem is she is bound to repeat it. And that ignorant thing she says about keeping it all in the family, that’s the very reason we have high crime in this world, people don’t want to talk about squat. I don’t know who told her, but her songs have no passion in them, so jack squat comes out in her music. She’ll learn one day.
Judging by that GQ photoshoot she needs to see a psychiatrist. Something is really wrong with that girl.

who cares!!!!!
Excuse the fact that it’s Rhianna refusing therapy, this is a huge taboo in the african american community. Many who need therapy won’t seek it. It’s something most won’t do they think it makes them look weak.
I could go on for days with this subject. It was a huge topic in class one day and very interesting.
what I so agree with. Something is really wrong, she goes from being a fashionista to just taking her clothes off and exploiting herself. I saw some of the pics on one of those celebrity shows and there is a fine line of being sexy and just being sluttish and she has crossed that line. She better seek some type of therapy; she needs help and the sad thing is she doesn’t realize that she needs help she is in denial. Let’s see her blame CB for this behavior!!
Rihanna, you need church, seek Godly counseling. Those shrinks are messed up themselves.
Just stay away from CB you two are just bad company for each other.
Birthwrite, I am glad someone has said this. Black people have often refused to get mental help for years and it has led to all sorts of problems. We need to get out of that mentality. If a loved one does legitimately have an issue, we don’t need to “keep it in house.”
Caramel and What, chances are this behavior was in Rihanna long before Chris Brown. I saw some video on the GQ shots and let me say that she might as well have gone all the way and did PLAYBOY because those shots were very close to that! Not that I don’t like seeing a fine woman in the buff but don’t try to pretend your some angel when you aren’t. Rihanna, you ain’t Aaliyah (RIP).
Karen C., you said it right. Nothing to add.

Of course people can be open to therapy while still respecting their cultural values, but flaunting what you got shouldn’t be subject to generic ‘she needs help’ critique. Rihanna is fierce to the bone and can make up her own mind. Nuff said b*tches.
