After being accused of preferring white women over black, Russell Simmons took to his Global Grind site to blog about his frustrations.
THE SPIN
In I like them short, yellow, brown, Puerto Rican or Haitian news, Russell Simmons went off on those who say he prefers the taste of vanilla over hot and warm chocolate.
He got a bit mad at one commentator and let him and others who share that sentiment have it.
On his blog on Global Grind he wrote:
“Thats pure bulls**t I prefer funny, charming and yes beautiful women. I like black, black African women like Ms Tanzania, Flaviana, or Kiara, and i like french african like Noemie Lemoir. I like African American women like Porschla and Katie Rost I like , no LOVE, Asian/Black women like my children AND Kimora Lee. Oh and I like swedish women like my old girl Tova Johannsen. I like blond Texas girls like my ex girl Julie I like danish girls like Heidi Albertson I like Puerto Ricans like Heidy Alliende I could go but the point is made.
I’m sick of racist self hating women suggesting that I prefer this and that. I prefer hot funny charming non cigarette smoking, NON fur wearing women from any place in the world”
Let it be known that some celebrities do in fact read their comments section.
Now, I’m not entirely sure how questioning a man’s preference (even if falsely) dating preferences necessarily means the other person is racist and self-hating. In some cases that could be true, but isn’t that more of the exception than the rule? When a person accuses one of having a racial preference (particularly a black man) does it mean the accuser has their own deep seated insecurities?

Well I dont think its self hatred, I just think that some black women have a hard time seeing a wealthy black man with a white woman, black women feel like it should be a black woman on there arm, JUST like when a black man sees a black woman with a Wealthy white man, they want to call them hoes and whatver but its the same thing, it could be a little racism but not self hatred, it gets a little old when most black men get wealthy and famous they feel like they have to complete the package with a white woman on there arm. now for Russell I have seen him with all kinds of women so that woman who wrote that was just trippin for real
Yeah, in the case of Russell, it isn’t self-hatred at all. Not all black men who date women besides black hate themselves.
Put it in short wording, Russell isn’t Tiger or Wesley! LOL!
It doesn’t matter. A person has the right to date who he or she wants too. Everyone has a preference. Yes, I know it may piss people off to see a good wealthy black man with a white woman but hey that’s life.
Russell Simmons does not have a preference for white woman. His preference is for beautiful younger women.
Some men are just never satisfied period.
Truthspeaks, while I agree that anyone should date whoever they want based on preference, thats fine but the problem is that Black men cant handle it when they see a black woman with a wealthy white man, they get all ignorant and give attitude like there is something wrong with it, the double standard with black men is so clear to see
Shockadelica, I agree. I see black men literally become hostile when they see a black woman and a white man walking down the street. There seems to be this unwritten double standard, where some black men think they can be with whomever they choose, but black women should be in exclusive relationships with black men only.
I agree that there is a double standard – Black men have a problem with Black women dating outside the race, but Black men date any and everybody. I think Black women need to do the same thing – expand their horizons. I am all for Black love, but these days, there are way too many Black women sitting around waiting for Black men that may never come.
I don’t think it is self-hatred. I do think it is Playa-hatred! Man have you seen the beautiful women Russell Simons dates? I think everyone is a Supermodel. Hell, I ain’t mad at Russell. He dates women who are fine as hell! Period! That ain’t discrimination! Unless you are a lady who is not fine as hell trying to get some of that Simmons money. That is probably why who ever said what they said, said what they said. Now if Russell never dated any Black Women, I might listen to what you had to say. Other than that I would just look at roster of beautiful women Mr. Simmons has been with and just tell you “Quit Hating!”

AP, thanks! I don’t feel that with Russell at all. He still remembers he’s a black man. He just likes women! LOL!
As for the rest of you, I do agree there is a double standard. I am for Black Love as well but why sit on your behind waiting for a black man or woman that may never come when someone that truly cares for you is right there but you won’t date them because they aren’t black?! That’s crazy!
To: all that feel that they will cross over to find that man or woman who’ll bring them true happiness.
I myself prefer to stay with my own (Blackmen) forget those brotha’s that are into the swirl. They are the ones with the problem NOT me. Sistas are no different than any other white, Asian or indifferent woman. Black people just have to get past our self hatre and some of the negative images that was protrayed to us and make a difference in what lies ahead.
To: brothas that are having a difficult time in relationships with sistas you’re just messed up from what image was projected to you about black woman. I try to demonstrate a positive image to our young male and female children at early stages of their lives. As the following:
1. Not bad mouthing black men or women in front of the young.
2. Not bringing bad influential black males or females around the young.
3. Introducing them to african culture and art that will show a good impact on them in later years. That they will learn to value and appreciate their history. Let them know it was scientist, doctors and pioneers in us, all around the globe. Travel and explore outside of America, and see us in ancient places like China, India and the middle east doing great things.
4. Get past our color struck, stop looking at the flesh and focus on the beauty that lies within. See character.
All this will help in our ways to become better people. We have the same equal amount as anyone else, if we just spend time educating ourselves on who we are and how far we have come throughout history. This is how we find our happiness, not in men or woman but in just us.
Men and women that jump in relationship to relationship is just searching for themselves.

Let’s just tell the truth. Many decendants of slaves will always prefer someone who does not look like himself or his mother. No question, there are a small percentage of Black men who coincidentally fall in love with women from other ethnic backgrounds. However, statistics have proven that these are the exception. The over whelming majority of Blacks have a slave plantation mentality and their interracial unions are “pursued” and preferred relationships. Intelligent blacks and whites know this. In conjunction, no one with any degree of self esteem would admit this ie; most Black men. However, to their credit, many Black men have in fact been honest-and have admitted that they simply prefer White Women. Ebony magazine has published numerous articles on this. But your typical celebrity-will not confess-because it could cost them tons of money in lost fans for selling records, movies, etc. Equally important, it reveals their self hatred of themselves. But be not fooled. 98% of Black men don’t accidentally marry Asians, Whites or anyone else. Let’s just be honest. Bottom line is-We’re all people. And Black women need to be cognizant of this. don’t define your status or your beauty by what many Black men do or who they sleep with. Afterall, many Black men prefer to have sexual relationships with other Black and White men-and these men are actively living with Black women and their children. Also, it is a profound cultural myth to think that Black men belong exclusively to Black women. They do not, never have, and never will. By the way, I’m a Black Female too.

Karen, I was initially upset at your comments until I re-read what you were saying.
In it, you weren’t so much knocking black folks who are in relationships with other races. Rather, you were knocking the reasons.
I have dated both black and white women and let me say that both have their positives and negatives. I personally prefer black women but if the love is real, I don’t care what race they are. That being said, you do have a point about the reasons black men date white women or other women. They have had negative experiences and now put all black women in that category (which is wrong).
Personal story. I almost turned my back on black women entirely after a brief but awful relationship with a black woman from NY in 2003. She was very rude, condescending and a mouth that would make Lil’ Kim blush! She especially put me down about my situation at the time. I was living at home with my mom and her husband. Said that I wasn’t a real man despite the fact that I was working and trying to be on my own. Said that I (and I quote) “get an allowance”, told me that if my mom answers the phone she is hanging up and not calling back (despite the fact it was HER house)!
Needless to say, I was all ready to say to hell with black women after dealing with her spoiled tail but another (who got married about 2 months ago), changed my mind. She is now a good friend but at one point, we were intimate but even more than that, she showed me the beauty of a black woman from within (meaning the human being).
While I still will never limit myself as far as dating nor will I exclusively date black women, I will never put my sistas in the same category because of one bad apple.
Truth be told, I tend to date outside of my own because of where I live at this time. Most of the black women around here are very ghetto or prefer thuggish type negros. The few with any sense either see me as just a friend OR are already spoken for.
I have defended black women too with those that do date outside of their race. Again, I have done it myself so I can’t hate on them for that and I don’t. Rather, their reasons that they do it is what gets me. Stuff like:
“white women aren’t triflin’ like black women are”
“white women will buy me stuff”
“white women are easier to get along with than black women”
There are others I have heard but those are the top three. All which are a crock! I’ve met white women that were just as ghetto as some black women and had just as filthy a mouth too.
Guess what I am saying is Karen is that while we both have a different take on the whole interracial dating scene, I do agree with you that stereotypes and childhood experiences play a role that could be easily fixed. Should I ever have children (especially if they are black children), I will do my best to make sure my kids are exposed to good examples. While I am sure they will see the bad examples too, they will know that they are not the norm or if they are, they don’t have to be.

Russell Simmons is just a plain ole’ jackolantern. I don’t understand him at all his Asian women got him all messed up. Got too much money, fame and don’t know what to do with himself. Just Boredom. What he need to do is invest in under privilege and disenfranchised black communities. The perfect place is Hollis Queens, that’s were he came from and I’m pretty sure he can adopt Black family that has loss of income and home is going for foreclosure.
This is what bothers me about these fortunate blackmen. Instead of investing back into their people they spend their fortune on waste. Such as:

Yes Black men belong to Black women, because thats where they were planted in the Garden of Eden. They owe it to God, he gave every living creature his or her own.
Karen, I can’t argue with that. Even when a white man marries another such as a black woman, they still don’t forget where they came from. The asian man example is the same. While they love the woman they are with, they still remember their people.
That’s one thing I have promised myself. If I marry someone other than a black woman, I will still remember who I am and where I came from as I am sure she will do the same.
I also get your point about these black men that do make it. If they must have someone other than a black woman, why take the lowest denominator? Why not find a white woman on their level! You best believe if a white man marries a black woman, he’s going to marry someone on his level, not a sista from the hood (if you will)!
Russel Simmons, should know what he wants by now. He is almost fifty years old to behave this way. He should sit his old ass down and get ready for his golden years of grandchildren, do something more valuable with his time then chasing skirts.
I hate to admit that some of us African American Men do have a problem with relating to our sisters.
In my youthful days as I had a taste of the forbidden fruit. I chased women from all different diverse backgrounds, that’s only while I was fulfilling my royal oaths. Luckily, these young girls did not get impregnated by me. When It came to making my choice of who will be my Queen. Most definitely a sister. Who I’m happily married to this day.
