So I’m not going to chime in with Method Man and Redman’s misogyny-inspired rant about baby mamas milking their men for all of their money, but isn’t over $50,000 a month in child support and alimony more than enough for someone to live off of?
Apparently not if your Kelis and her attorney, Laura Wasser.
TMZ reports that the two have reviewed Nas’ financial earnings, and based on their findings they conclude:
– Nas pulls in $244,826 a month
– Kelis rakes in a relatively paltry $13,744 a month
– Kelis should get child support totaling $17,225 a month
– Kelis should get spousal support totaling $72,728
– Nas should pay retro child support totaling $29,522
– Nas should pay retro spousal support totaling $281,571
Really? She deserves that much based on two years of marriage and a baby who currently requires breast milk for meals?

Folks, excuse my language but this is bullshit!! I wish I was getting $50,000 a month! That should be more than enough to take care of a child not to mention yourself. And don’t give me that “lifestyle” excuse. Sometimes you got to scale back! Ordinary people do it all the time so why should Kelis be any different.
I am all for a man paying child support but this is ridiculous! A lot of women who have dead-beat men as the fathers of their kids would KILL to get half of that money she’s already getting now! To me, she should be grateful for what she’s getting now instead of being greedy.
Kelis, you better look at what happened to 50 Cent’s baby’s mamma! She tried that same thing and the judge ended up cutting her way less than what she tried to get!

It is alot, but Kelis was MARRIED to Nas so thats why she’s asking for that much. As for 50′s baby mama, thats her business not Kelis’.Also, Kelis is NOT a baby mama. A baby mama is a woman who has a baby thats not married. If the judge grants Kelis that amount than so be it. The money is not coming out of our pockets, so why should you complain?

You are right, Kelis was married to Nas but even most of the women speaking on this board are saying this is ridiculous.
And the point I was trying to make, if you bothered to read my post, was that if Kelis was smart she’d watch trying to demand all this money because that judge might decide ENOUGH and I was using the 50 Cent case as an example. Other than the fact that she was married to Nas, I don’t see much difference between the two cases.
Besides, its like Eddie Murphy once said on his comedy concert RAW, if you and the woman come into the relationship with nothing and you build your fortune together, then the woman deserves half or whatever her cut is. Nas was around long before Kelis and was definitely better known! He already had money.
I am not saying Kelis shouldn’t get child support and such but the amounts she is asking for is crazy! I’ll echo what someone said earlier, get a job or get back in the studio and make a hit Kelis! Either way, quit expecting your ex to cut you a check. His responsibility ends with the kids you and he had. After that, its on you.
This is crazy. Let Bobby Brown be an example. Child support is based off of current earnings but the order lasts until the child is out of college. In 10 years I doubt Nas will be bringing in that much so what happens then – he goes to jail for not paying. Unfortunately for Nas the court will probably decide in her favor because she is the caregiver.
Nas is one of the Greatest old school rappers that is still relevan today. Kelis knows that but she’s pushing it too far. Girl Chill out. Do ya thang and don’t make a bad name for yourself
People don’t realize that Nas wanted to pay only 5k a month, when she was asking for 20k while she was pregnant. Instead of being a dumb, greedy nigga he should have gave the 20k and it would’ve been a done deal. But he lied and now Kelis is getting in his ass and I don’t blame her! He doesn’t realize that he can go to jail for making false statements about him not making much money a month. Nas is trying to outsmart Kelis, but he can’t. Kelis is smarter than he is. She knows what he’s capable of and she know that he’s a lying ass deadbeat. People are going to talk shit about Kelis regardless and I’m sure it doesn’t bother her 1 bit because shes a type of woman who doesn’t live for the people.

Here’s how this should be handled:
Nas, set up a trust fund for the kids giving them access to it when they reach the age of 21. Give Kelis spousal support of $3k a month. Anything for the kids, pay for it yourself.
Kelis, take some singing lessons and maybe you can get a job in a Las Vegas lounge or something. Hey, it’s not rapper money, but it’ll be money YOU earned. Became an independent woman. By the looks of it, she’ll probably spend through that 50k so fast it’ll be a fragment of her imagination once its gone.

Because she was his WIFE, she probably knew exactly what his earnings were (disclosed and un-disclosed)[cause thats the kind of thing husbands/wives talk about]. Therefore, she knows exactly what she’s entitled to and has every right to fight for what rightfully belongs to her whether or not we believe the amount is too much. personally, I think the law unfairly favors the custodial parent but those are the laws. If his income decreases in the future, he certainly has the right to request a modification of his support. Rather than blaming her for fight for her money, WE should be fighting to get the laws changed surrounding child support before one of us finds ourselves in a similar situation.

Helen Im a woman, and the amount of money she is getting is crazy PERIOD. Then she have the nerves to ask for more. IF anything the court need to change the laws about that sort of money being given to a mother. Kelis has a father and if she didnt get support from him when she was a child that is not Nas Problem.
Since Nas has a child with her he need to pay child support. He could take 30,000 and put that in a trust fund for the child not the mother. The rest of the money the Judge need to say this is the amount you need to put on his clothes and any school activities. This amount you can use to help house him and feed him, but as far as using the money to take care of Kelis she need to get a job. Take care of herself. She wasnt married to him before he became famous.
Now if it was Cookie Majic wife and she asked for that amount yeah give it to her because she was with him in college before he made money and after he made money and was there doing the time he was sick and everything else. So a woman like her would deserve that amount, but Kelis Heck naw get a friggin job Kelis.

There are no kids (plural) there is only one kid. If you noticed the extra money she is asking for is not for the child it’s for her. The money she is asking for in child support doesn’t compare to what she wants in spousal support. It’s not about the kid it’s about her!

I’m a woman, and I have a problem with any able-bodied adult, with a functioning mind, who makes her/his way leeching through life on someone’s else’s back. I don’t know what Kelis’ voice sounds like, but I understand she made her living as a singer prior to marriage; so, what’s her excuse? The noncustodial parent is supposed to contribute (CONTRIBUTE)toward the physical and educational needs of the child(ren), not support a lifestyle. Whatever is done for the child beyond that, is simply done out of the heart of a loving parent. If Kelis has a standard for the type lifestyle she wants to lead, she should create that for herself.
There’s old saying about someone “cutting off her nose to spite her own face”. Therefore, if she tries to financially break the man just because she’s mad at him, she’s only going to hurt herself and their child, in the long run.
