MARY J. BLIGE VS. JAY-Z

THE FACTS
Mary J. Blige responds to criticism over her use of autotune.
THE SPIN
If Jay-Z were to tell everyone to dress up as Batman and quack like a duck in the costume, many a follower would simultaneously channel their inner Bruce Willis and Donald Duck. To that end, now that Jigga has realized “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)” it should surprise no one that so many have hopped on the anti-autotune bandwagon.
However, T-Pain said he won’t stop using it, not to mention Mary J. Blige has now jumped on the trend with her new single, “The One” featuring Drake.
So what does Mary have to say about Jay’s comments?
She told Angie Martinez:
“I won’t say that it bothers me, because people do what they have to do. I can’t pass judgment. Everyone else does what they do, and everyone has their own opinion. To each his own. Do what you do, because I do what I do.”
What got her using it this late anyway?
“It was for effect. I wanted Crazy Mary to get her shine on. She couldn’t get her shine with my regular voice. I used the effect. I used it as a telephone effect or reverb.”

I think I better go and google autotune because I never heard of it before until now….
If Mary could not sing that would be one thing but she seems to be trying to add a little flavor to her album. This is not bad. I don’t think she needs it though.
Now for the likes of Diddy, T-Pain and Kanye (Talk about Ghetto baby names)who can not sing. The whole autotune thing is only to mask their lack of talent in that area. If you ain’t Roger Troutman then dump the Autotune and find some one who can actually sing to be on your album.
T-Pain sounds great with auto tune and I agree with Mary, do what works for you.
no matter what mary j do its great and she have to stay with new generations so do what you have to do mary j. she has came to far to listen to jay z. may be his voice did not sound right doing cause i bet he tried to do it.
Well the auto-tune thing is different in hip-hop but if anyone could remember the song computer love, that’s where he got it from. It’s just something different that will pass soon.
Off topic but in response to another comment - Kanye is not a “ghetto baby name.” Every name that isn’t Anglo in origin is not ghetto. Look it up.
nobody does like roger troutman , he masterthe darn thing . you heard me
I’m with Berry the auto tune was made famous with Roger Troutman. Now it’s ok for effect but to perform an entire song in it is a cover-up for the talent a artis lacks. Frankly, I’m tired of it’s just been over used.
LIKE MARY SAID YOU DO WHAT YOU DO LET ME DO ME. (CAN I LIVE!!!!)
The industry has many fads. Autotune is just another one. I guess Jay just said enough already. Let’s be done with this trend, and bring back the true culture.(and I agree, it’s time) To quote Mary, you do…I’ll do. She’s right. Autotune is universal. Spitting like Jay is unique. Not everyone has it, ergo the need for gimmick.
