THE FACTS
Nas is facing jail time after a contempt motion was filed against him in his bitter legal battle with ex-wife, Kelis.

Somewhere Kelis and her attorney are singing: “Shawty, say what’s your price, just to back it up you can hold my ice.”
I’m sure one of them Diddy-bopped for good measure.
That’s because Kelis’ attorney claims Nas owes more than $200,000 in child support and alimony in addition to attorney’s fees.
Kelis’ legal shakedown specialist filed a contempt motion earlier because her client’s ex-husband refuses to pay up.
When he appeared in court, though, Nas pled not guilty. If convicted in a contempt hearing next month, he faces jail time.
More recently, Nas included the line in a new track with Damian Marley that went:
“How in the hell am I supposed to stay comfy/ When I pay child support, alimony monthly….”
If I were ordered to pay more than $51,000 a month, I’d probably say worse.

Well, right or wrong, if that judge orders you to pay up, you better do it.
Still, this is sad on both sides. Nas for not doing his end and Kelis for not trying to have her own! If anything, that money should go to a trust fund or something for that kid.
Ervin I agree with you right or wrong,he needs to do what the judge has order for him to do, and in the mean time if he can’t meet these payments than he needs to prove it the next time there is a court date. The flip side of this I think Kelis is being triffling, she needs to get a job, she probably is just being spitefull and I’m sure anger plays a part in this as well. Divorce is never easy no matter what the circumstances are and it’s more complicated when there are children involved. I hope they both grow up and begin to realize this isn’t about them but about the children. Nas & Kelis grow up!!!

well nas should have been more careful of his money anyway. it takes two to tango so he should pay up. he shouldn’t knocked her up in the first place or got himself fixed. kelis hasn’t had a hit record in years so that why she married him. this isn’t bout them its about their child. the money should goes to the mother regardless.
How is Kelis a gold digger when the JUDGE ordered Nas to pay 50k a month. Kelis was asking for 20k a month. The judge wouldn’t make Nas pay that much if he didn’t have it. He has it! Nas is 4 months behind his child support and thats why he has to pay 200k. Don’t be mad at Kelis, be mad at the judge and Nas. If Nas was a REAL man, he would be handling his business or wouldn’t be cheating on his pregnant wife with some jump-off.

He knew who Kelis was when he married her. People had already gave the scoop on her, I remember 50 cents even saying that Nas was stupid for marrying her.
And another point. Nas was at the top of his rap game when he was battle rapping against Jay Z. To be truthful Jay Z could not hold up against Nas when they were going at each other. Then Jay Z turned around and offered Nas to be on his label and that’s when Nas fall off to me. He should have been smarter than to allow his enemy to have control over him and his music. That’s when I knew he wasn’t smart as he lead on to be.
Nas, keep your head up because you will get through this and as for Kelis,just remember what goes around comes around your day will come.

Please, what Kelis is asking for is bottom-basement or peanuts in the industry that they work in. Kloe Kardashian got a better deal in her pre-nup. Kelis never even asked for a pre-nup and she held her man down. How could she be a gold-digger? When the two married, they professed to love one another. Keli’s career was hot at that time, and Nas’ career had declined significantly, in fact it was on life-support. She helped him by putting him in her Milkshake and a subsequent video, and they spent both her money and his together. Ironically, at the time of the divorce, she had no money left, and he was back in a steady gig. The press from their union, actually put Nas’ name back in the limelight and raised his status for a few reasons. So, now they have broken up. The love is gone and they are going through a nasty divorce. Nothing new. He made a kid and she put her career on hold to have it. Perhaps if she’d chosen her career instead of having a baby for her husband she would not need to ask him for money. I am sure that it is humiliating for her to have it written in the papers that her baby’s father and husband walked off and left her and her baby without anything. Kelis knows what is real in her life; we are only spectators. Stop the hate!
first all..i like to say that child support is for the woman to take of the child if the father is not stepping up. in this matter nas take care of his kids so paying her 51k a months is out of order. Now that nas dont wanna be with her becuase of that sex tape that got leak out on her she mad she aint goin have nuthin because her career definitely aint flyin right now and nas got money so let me break him off plus she decided to get prego when he found out bout the tape and decided he dont want nuthin to do wit her ratchet azz datz my opinion…now that the real 411 on that shit
I just had to chime in on one thing…someone said Kelis asked for 20k & received 51k…NO…she asked for 17k in child support and 75k in spousal support…a total of 92k per month (i.e. ridiculous). She is legal gold-digging using an old, broken system that basically works to destroy families & create tension these days. I never once believed she was broke like she said she was, but whatever the lawyer coaches you to say is what you say. Spite is a crazy thing but what goes around comes around. I wish them both the best, but mainly the child who has spiteful crazies using him to get back at each other.
Its a shame to see a broken system filled with people with their own interests in mind tear apart families to an even further extent than they would have been without this tattered, backward system.
I actually think these fools will end up back together in a matter of years anyways after they make each other jealous for a little while with a little bit of rebound arm candy then realize that no relationship is perfect & sometimes you have to work on your family where you have love & history instead of giving up & starting over at the glance of a problem

It isn’t about Nas staying “COMFY”. It’s about the baby. How in the hell can he complain about paying child support. His child has a right to live just as lavish a life style as he lives. As far as alimony, that’s the consequences of messing’ up during a marriage. Why get married? Stay single and do ya thang. I dont feel sorry for Nas. This entire situation was brought on by Nas himself. Dont get me wrong, I love Nas. My fav MC after 2Pac but we have to hold these celebs accountable. No free passes. If u listen to Nas music, he is very political and always Criticizing others and holding them accountible. I can remember on one line in a song, he had the nerves to criticize Kobe for his Colorado actions. WOW…lol None of us our perfect. Stop Judging!!
well alimony is for Kelis to stay “comfy” so I find it kind of funny that the person who actually earns their money apparently doesn’t need to be comfy.
So the price of a marriage ending is alimony? What about the people who weren’t at fault for their divorce who have to pay alimony simply because they make more? The dissolution of a marriage should not be a time of punishment. Thing should get distributed fairy and custody should be joint unless one of the parents is harmful to the child.
Alimony is for people who would be out on the streets without it, not for people who make 20k a month but spend 80k a month…they are in need of a reality check not a paycheck from their ex. How the hell is anyone supposed to “move on” when every month they are shelling off money to pay for their ex’s lifestyle? If you don’t want to be with someone then move on & don’t put all of your energy into making them “pay”
Child support is another issue obviously. I definitely think it is something that should be enforced but fairly…and I think that the custodial parent should have to provide proof (receipts, etc.) that they money is going toward the child because it should not be being used for that parent to live off of…get your own. I also believe that the parent paying the child support should have input into how that money is allocated because after all they are a parent as well & should be instrumental in their child’s life & needs. BUT the current system is so screwed that kids are just being used as paychecks & ways to get revenge. THAT is sad.
