IRV GOTTI DROPS ASHANTI FROM LABEL

THE FACTS
Irv Gotti tells MTV News that he’s dropping Ashanti from his label.

THE SPIN
When is the last time you’ve heard anyone say Murder Inc. was killing the game? Shoot, when is the last time you’ve even bought an album from an artist on the label?

Actually, do one better: Name as many people on the Murder Inc. roster as you can?

Wait, before you spend three hours doing that, read what Irv had to say about giving Ashanti the boot:

“I personally believe for her to be successful, it took the energy … when you seen her, it
was 30 n—as around her, and she’s the princess so nice and pretty walking through,” he said. “The music was great, but it was the energy that was created. It wasn’t just her standing there and singing a song. We don’t really speak or talk or anything like that,” he continued. “It’s sad in a way. But in another, it’s like it’s all good.”

Well, maybe not that good. Gotti said it is best for them to part ways.

“I don’t think she can win. She needs some guidance with that,” Gotti added. “But she’s not thinking like that. Really, I couldn’t tell you what she’s thinking. So that relationship has run its course and honestly, I’m gonna just drop her.”

I’m not entirely sure why this is a bad thing for Ashanti, but oh well, let’s play along with Irv. And you know what, while we’re at it, let’s reminisce about Uptown Records and when Jodeci mattered.

Her music is a big YAWN!

jimmy jam terry lewis, dream, anybody, she might make better record than she made before under someone else

Her music isn’t bad and quite frankly, its more of a loss for Murder Inc. than it is for her.

I think Diddy should put Ashanti on his label. I think he should put her on his label because she can really sing and her dance moves are tight. I also think she could learn a lot from him. I think Ashanti will be a great addition to the Bad Boy Family.
