TEAM USHER: ‘SONG ISN’T ABOUT TAMEKA’

THE FACTS
Songwriter denies Usher’s latest single is directed at the singer’s estranged wife.
THE SPIN
When you title your album Raymond vs. Raymond in the midst of a divorce, most people assume a song called “Papers” is about your soon to be ex-wife.
But let songwriter Sean Garrett tell it, Usher’s new song isn’t really about Tameka Raymond.
Via People:
“I wrote that record about eight months ago, before he was even getting a divorce. The record is not about Tameka and those are not his words,” he clarifies with a laugh. “I’m a great songwriter; I know how to write great songs!”
And Usher’s always had a knack for using his personal life for professional gain, so does it really matter when it was written and recorded if it’s still being used to exploit the here and now?
Sean claims that Usher had reservations about releasing the song:
“He definitely had a lot on his mind. We talked about this record coming out quite a few times. ‘Should it come out? Should it not come out?’ We had questions about how it would be taken.”
However, once the label heard it they decided to go ahead and leak the single.
Sean told People: “We knew it was a smash.”

I like the song yeah Usher that song is about your relationship and if it really wasn’t for her it damn sure as hell sounds like it. Either way it’s a decent song.
I told everyone we were going to get an album out of this. I’d buy it.
WE like Usher’s new song.Usher too bad you didn’t work hard at staying married.Usher is just the typical black guy that don’t believe in true love, yea Usher your new song”Papers” sound real good though.
I like his new song. I think it is a song written from experience. I know he doesn’t want to admit to that, but I believe it is. He has a right to express the turn of events that almost caused his relationship with his mother to almost be torn forever.
Now Usher knows this song is about his relationship. Why deny it? I guess he didn’t want to add more gasoline to the fire. It’s a good song though.
That is the saddest song I have heard about a breakup. You know this woman almost died trying to fix herself to keep up an image. The odds were stacked against this marriage from the beginning. Usher you chose your wife, he can act all day long this song does not ring a bell of the truth that his family is going through. I think it is in bad taste to release this song right now. Everything about this song is a “Hit Record”, but its tacky and disrepectful and a celebration song for all the “I told you So” people.
Deehigia, I agree. I think it’s in bad taste to release the song now. Sign the damn papers and get on with your life and don’t bore us with the details. If he is as talented as he wants us to think he is, find a new topic to sing about. I think he is a coward who uses his personal crap to sell records. Marriage is to be respected & worked at. Not for you to run at the first sign of trouble. I think he’s an idiot!
ummmm…. he “almost lost his mama” is in one of the lines. dude, this song is about him and his wife. not hard to figure out.
Age is more than a number beleive that! Baby no baby hollywood that is wha it iz.
I THINK IT IS DEFENTLY ABOUT HIS LIFE,BUT I LOVED THE SONG
I love the song, it remind me of my life many many years ago.
I think he should have waited to release the song. It’s not cute to go through divorce or sing about it. What happens when his kids are old enough to play the cd? He needs to respect the union he created with his wife and bow out gracefully and quietly…. He looks like a fool….
I don’t think I like him anymore…Usher that was desprate!!!
I like the song but come on now did you really think people weren’t going to be able to put two and two together!
Team Usher Stop It!!! You must really think we are real slow or “special” if you were thinking that the listening public didn’t tie this song into Usher’s personal life-marriage “drama”. Especially the line in the song about his “Mama” even if it does ryhme with drama. His mother made no qualms about her disagreement with the marriage in the first place and she made it very clear that she didn’t approve of her son’s poor taste in choosing Tameka as his wife by not showing up at the wedding in support of the union. Ok to play devils advocate, the listening public will say that only part of the song is related to Usher’s marriage drama/nightmare to Tameka. Feel better now Team Usher? You must be kidding me!!
