Alicia Keys claims she’s never been in a “terrible relationship.”

In where was your publicist when you said this news Alicia Keys was quoted in a recent interview talking about her past relationships.

Apparently Alicia is quite the lucky one.

She says:

“I’ve never dated a ton of people, I’ve always been a one-guy kind of girl, but I have to say that I’ve always been lucky with love, blessed with it. Overall I haven’t had any terrible relationships - apart from a couple of little stupid ones when I was younger, but at that age you kinda can’t help it. But I’ve always had really great guys in my life, you know? They’ve been very stable men as well. I need a guy who is strong-minded, not intimidated by me - I don’t like those kind of guys.”

Now if you were receiving a lot of criticism after the wife of your boyfriend called you a homewrecker (in so many words), would you make a comment like this?

Even if it’s not true, it just seems like the sort of sound bite some people will twist around. You know, kind of like I just did.

Maybe it’s time for Alicia to follow the Beyonce school of thought when it comes to discussing relationships publicly.

• Usmagazine.com reports that Alicia Keys may already be engaged to boyfriend and producer, Swizz Beats.

THE SPIN:
This week Alicia Keys was spotted in Hawaii celebrating her birthday with Swizz Beats and folks noticed Alicia had a new friend on her finger.

Now another friend of hers is telling the press that she and Swizz may be headed to the altar.

A pal tells UsMagazine.com that Beatz, 31 (who is currently divorcing wife Mashonda), proposed with a 7-carat sparkler right before her big day; the happy couple were photographed strolling on a Hawaii beach the day of the proposal, Jan. 24.

Keys’ rep denies she is engaged, but another friend reveals, “They are currently in Hawaii celebrating the engagement and her birthday. She feels blessed.”

Adds the pal: “She is thrilled. She is with the man who has inspired so much of her music and her new album [The Element of Freedom].”

Well if Swizz inspired that new album I now know who to hit up to get my $3.99 back (FYI: I got it via Amazon, not the bootleg man).

In any event, I’ll wait for Mashonda to blog about it before I believe anything.

But if these two are getting married I wonder will a wedding announcement help subside some of the backlash Keys has received in recent months over being branded a “home wrecker.”

The singer explained why she ignores media rumors in a recent interview.

THE SPIN
For months now, Alicia Keys has been plagued with rumors that she’s a homewrecker.

Although she’s never tackled Mashonda’s past claims directly she’s at least trying to address some of what’s being said about her – sort of anyway.

While speaking with the Daily Telegraph, she dismissed recent rumors about her as “silly.”

She said:

“People don’t know me for whatever silly rumor or lie they heard, or for silly gossip magazine… I’m fortunate - that’s not what my life circles around.

From the beginning, I’ve had to juggle and weigh the silly things people say - and I’ve learned that they’re meaningless and they’re mostly inaccurate.

So I don’t worry about it, because there’s nothing for me to deal with. I know exactly the person that I am and I feel very proud of who that person is.”

Oh, the “above it all” approach. Cute. Totally not expected.

With respect to Alicia, she has every right not to let a bunch of people who don’t know her affect the way she looks at herself. However, I’m tired of folks acting like the big bad media is to blame for rumors soiling her reputation.

She got put on blast by the wife of the man she involved herself with…several times. It wasn’t a “silly gossip magazine” that came up with this. It was someone else close to the situation. But hey, she doesn’t care and she’s proud of who she is so that’s great. Just don’t blame the media for this one rumor that may never go away.
