MARLON TALKS ABOUT MICHAEL’S FUNERAL

THE FACTS
Marlon Jackson spoke to U.K. tabloid The Mirror about Michael Jackson’s burial.

THE SPIN
I guess it’s Marlon’s turn to collect a check off his brother’s name. The Jackson I forgot existed (no offense to you, Marlon, it’s just you never had a solo hit like Rebbie and the others) told The Mirror that the King of Pop will buried in gold.

Per the Mirror:

Lying in state in an £18,000 gold-plated casket, the drug-ravaged singer has been fitted with a special wig to give him flowing shoulder-length locks, Marlon says.

And a make-up artist has painted his face to ensure he is buried as if he was taking to the stage for his last bow.

After an emotional sunset funeral, Jackson’s coffin will be immediately encased in deep concrete to deter grave robbers and ghouls.

CCTV cameras linked to sensors will activate an alarm to warn security guards of any would-be trespassers at the grave.

Drug-ravaged singer? Really?

Disrespectful tone aside, Marlon did provide further insight in the funeral by adding:

Marlon, 52, said: “This will be Michael’s final curtain call – the last show. His shell will be gone but his spirit lives on.”

Soul legend Aretha Franklin will sing at the graveside. Jackson’s close friend Diana Ross will be there too, so will Motown record label founder Berry Gordy.

Jackson will be buried in Holly Terrace Grand Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park, five miles from Hollywood in North Los Angeles, alongside stars including Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable.

Good to know Michael will get the privacy he never got in life for once.

ARETHA FRANKLIN WANTS HER CUT

THE FACTS
Aretha Franklin argues that she deserves royalties from the hat designer who created the now infamous hat Franklin wore to the Presidential inauguration.

THE SPIN
According to Rhymes With Snitch, Aretha Franklin appeared on a local Detroit radio station and said Mr. Song Millinery – who created the grey felt hat she wore to the inauguration – should give royalties from sales of hats he’s since made after the one she wore became famous.

Aretha went to the Kentucky Derby last week wearing another Song hat but when she was asked who made it, she said she didn’t know.

Is it OK to call a legend petty?

ARETHA’S INAUGURATION HAT A PART OF HISTORY

THE FACTS
The Gospelrama blog on the Baltimore Sun’s Web site reports the Smithsonian wants the hat Aretha Franklin wore during her Inaugural performance for an exhibit on the inauguration.

THE SPIN
As proud as I was to see the first Black man (and brother in slimness) be sworn in as President of the United States, I couldn’t help but be distracted by that big Christmas present sitting on top of Aretha Franklin’s head as she wheezed and howled through “America.”

Looks like I wasn’t the only one. On the Smithsonian wanting her big bow of a hat, Aretha told People, “I am considering it. It would be hard to part with my chapeau since it was such a crowning moment in history. I would like to smile every time I look back at it and remember what a great moment it was in American and African-American history. Ten cheers for President Obama.”

I’m sure if she hears that Tina Turner is ready to donate one of her wigs for the cause she’ll have that hat overnighted to the Smithsonian.

YOUR SPIN: Should Aretha keep the hat or give it away?  Tell us here.
