RAY J TALKS ABOUT BRANDY’S CAREEER

THE FACTS
Ray J touched on the state of Brandy’s music career as well as upcoming projects the two are working on together.
THE SPIN
Despite releasing some of the best music of her career over the span of several years, Brandy hasn’t had a huge hit since 2002.
So while she is in the studio prepping the release of another album she’s yet to sign a new deal with a major label.
What’s the holdup considering her track record?
In a recent interview her brother Ray J explained:
“It’s just labels and stuff. Brandy’s sold over 25 million records… artists can’t do that now. When you’re dealin’ with these new record labels you’re dealin’ with the glam squad, the big budgets – Brandy’s not just gonna come through and do a deal for a million dollars… She’s gonna make sure that she can get out there and tour and is gettin’ as much money as possible. Sometimes you have to go out and find the right machine that’s willin’ to spend the money…
I mean Brandy still owns “Moesha,” she owns “The Parkers,” she’s still got a gang of guap, so if it’s not the way that she wants to do it then it’s probably gonna take a little longer. “
First off clap, clap…bravo to Mama Norwood for making sure Brandy signed the sort of contracts that would keep the cash flow pouring for years to come. It’s also helped Brandy develop a new teen following thanks to repeats of Moesha.
As far as the music goes, I think there’s still potential for her to get some shine back, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she had greater successes with the two reality shows she and Ray J are planning. One of which she’s currently shooting.
I didn’t appreciate Brandy as an artist at her prime, but now I’ve taken additional listens to her work and compared it to the banshee singing goats and dying cats polluting the radio today and I want her to win.
Do you think she still can?
