MOTHER DENIES ACCUSING RIHANNA OF STUNT

THE FACTS
The mother of Jasmina Anema has distanced herself from a Twitter post questioning Rihanna’s motives in befriending her child.

THE SPIN
The story of Jasmina Anema became a national phenomenon once Rihanna used her celebrity to help lead a bone marrow drive for the 6-year-old who bravely battled leukemia.

Yet sadly, Jasmina died in January and over the weekend her appropriately frustrated mother took to Twitter to vent. Unfortunately, that vent was directed Rihanna’s way.

Thea Anema tweeted:  “It has been a month since Jasmina’s passing. Still not even a card or text message from Rihanna. Did she use my child for a publicity stunt?”

The note has since been deleted, but was retweeted by several users.

On Monday, Thea posted the following: “Apparently there are some negative blogs out there. For the record, Rihanna has been nothing but really nice!!!”

With respect to Thea it wasn’t “negative bloggers” who put that message out there.

In an email to PEOPLE, Thea explained that while there are no hard feelings she does remain somewhat disappointed.

She said:

“Friends have helped me with all kinds of stuff and many know the passwords to my personal e-mail, the Caringbridge site and also Twitter. Although I did not Tweet this particular one, I do wish that Rihanna had responded to me on Jasmina’s passing. It would have meant the world to me.”

Jasmina adored her. Rihanna was so kind to come and visit her. I just felt hurt not hearing anything from her. Or of any other celebrities for that matter. The only ones who reached out to me personally during this time of grief were the Obamas.”

A source close to Rihanna defended the singer:

“She really loved this little girl. It was hard for her to deal with a child passing away, especially a little girl she had come to care for so much.”

RIHANNA READY FOR LAST DRAGON REMAKE

THE FACTS
Rihanna has reportedly been cast to star in the remake of the kung-fu cult classic, The Last Dragon.

THE SPIN
Let me explain something to you all.

When I say I was obsessed with The Last Dragon, I am not playing. Ask the VCR I nearly killed after so much rewind-abuse. Or ask my little brother, who I forced to reenact Bruce Lee Roy and Sho’Nuff with me repeatedly.

That said, I’ve been hearing about this remake for a long time but I kind of wish Hollywood would leave well enough alone and try to create new ideas (imagine that).

But Hollywood doesn’t care what I think and chances are I’m going to check out the movie out of sheer curiosity anyway — especially now that Rihanna is going to be a part of the movie.

According to Britain’s Daily Mirror Rihanna will join Samuel L. Jackson in the much hyped remake.

Per the British newspaper:

A source tells the publication, “She has landed an incredibly challenging role alongside Samuel L Jackson. “But it’s not a part for the faint-hearted. She will play a super sexy, super kinky dominatrix in martial arts flick The Last Dragon.

“She has been told to research the part.”

She’s going to play a kinky dominatrix. Judging from her stage attire she already has an affinity for lace, leather, and whips so I don’t think that will be a problem.

I remember at one point Chris Brown was set to be a part of the movie. I’m going to guess that’s not going to happen now, though.

JANET JACKSON ISN’T AFRAID OF RIHANNA & LADY GAGA

THE FACTS
Janet Jackson spoke on some of her younger contemporary artist in her cover story with Wonderland.

THE SPIN
Like the rest of us, Janet Jackson has noticed the rise of Lady GaGa and Rihanna.

On comparisons to Rihanna, Janet said: “Everything is cyclical. They come back around at some point.”

If Rihanna can be compared to Janet Jackson than a stale potato chip is my twin brother.

On the two stars collectively Janet said it’s great to “express yourself and be true to you,” but quipped that she wonders how long they’re going to be able to keep topping themselves.

She told Wonderland:

“I enjoy it because it’s something kind of different. It’s something new to look at. It’s going to be hard [for her] to keep up with that, but who knows?”

For the better part of ten years I can’t say Janet’s look has altered all that much. I’m a huge fan, but if we’re being honest not much has changed in terms of her look and the subject matter she sings about.

That may finally change, though, as she explained that fans might be treated to some of that classic Janet reinvention:

“I can tell there’s a change going on in me. Something good. A lot has happened in my life this year, a lot of changes; I think I’m kind of headed in a different direction for sure, and it’ll show itself to me. As far as keeping up, I don’t look at it like that.

It’s really about being who you are and doing what you want to do. I think when you try to keep up with something, it’s not a good thing. You have to express yourself and be the true you.”
