WHITNEY HOUSTON WON’T STOP SMOKING

THE FACTS
A concert promoter has blamed Whitney Houston’s smoking habits on her recent lackluster performances.

THE SPIN
Whitney Houston has been catching hell in Australia for sounding like her voice just left over the past week.

And now her promoter, Andrew McManus has come to explain why Nippy has been struggling to performing and appearing breathless.

McManus said:

“Whitney smokes. God bless her, I can’t tell her not to. She will not take any substances. She just will not. It is what it is. She’s comfortable with the show she’s performing. She knows she’s not hitting every note like she used to. But it’s value for money; it’s Whitney Houston, warts and all.”

McManus added that Whitney is trying to rise about the criticism:

“I talked to her after the Sydney show. I told her I have her back, but she said, ‘If the good Lord wants me to be attacked and ridiculed, that’s the road I have to go down’. It’s an interesting approach. Here I am being aggressive in trying to protect her and she said, ‘I love you for it, but let it go. I can only give my best. If that’s not good enough, then so be it. I’m comfortable in my own skin’.”

As much as I love Whitney, can you really blame fans for being upset that they spent their money on someone who might not be giving them their money’s worth?

But to be fair to Whitney, she’s trying.

Here she is performing “For The Lovers” from her now platinum album, “I Look To You:”

It’s an improvement but it’s sad to see her lip syncing.

TABLOID: WHITNEY HOUSTON COLLAPSING ON TOUR

THE FACTS
Rumors circulate about the health of Whitney Houston.

THE SPIN
The National Enquirer won’t let Nippy be great, ya’ll!

Let them tell it the second she steps on stage she’s about to drop to the ground (and not in the good way like me at the club).

Here it goes:

Whitney Houston’s physical condition is so fragile that alarmed family members begged her to put off her worldwide comeback tour, insiders say.

But the R&B diva — determined to jump-start her once red-hot career — refused, and then stumbled through the tour’s kick-off concert before suffering a horrifying collapse backstage, according to a source.

Now experts predict Whitney – ravaged by drug addiction, an abusive marriage, family stress and a stalled career – has just five years to live.

“Onstage, Whitney was obviously exhausted. She struggled to hit high notes, sweated profusely, wheezed through her songs and tripped over her own feet,” disclosed an insider.

But the biggest drama unfolded moments after the 46-year-old singer’s last bow during the Feb. 6 performance in Seoul, South Korea, said the source.

“Whitney walked backstage and folded over like a paper doll. She braced herself against a wall and screamed for water,” the insider revealed. “In between labored breaths, she choked, ‘I don’t know if I can make it through all of this.’”

Here’s a video of her recently performing “I Will Always Love You” in Korea:

Now while Nippy may sound like death, she looks healthy to me minus the coughing and her complaining she’s hot. That doesn’t read as a sign of foul play to me; it just shows you Whitney really doesn’t care what you think and will say whatever she wants. I’m surprised she didn’t pull her wig off.

IS RUSSELL CROWE JOIN BEYONCE’S NEW FILM?

THE FACTS
Russell Crowe is up for male lead opposite Beyonce in a remake of A Star Is Born.

THE SPIN
As always, a topic about Beyonce attracts a lot of attention – and hostility.

I saw the beef that went on between Beylievers and those still not ready to chimmy with the Creole, but I’m happy to announce that ‘Yonce isn’t going to let a Razzi nomination or anyone’s call for her extended vacation stop her grind.

Indeed, according to the LA Times’ 24 Frames film blog, Beyonce’s still likely to reprise a role made famous by Barbara Streisand in the remake of A Star Is Born.

Though the movie has been in development for quite some time, it seems like things are picking up steam.

Check out who might be joining Beyonce in the movie:

With a new remake of “A Star Is Born” gaining momentum at Warner Bros., the studio could be closing in on, well, a star.

Russell Crowe has emerged as the front-runner to take the lead male role of an aging, alcoholic musician who mentors/is schooled by — and then finds romance with — a younger female star. While it’s not believed there is a formal offer yet, the studio is very high on the 45-year-old actor, who in turn is said to be keen to take the role.

The female part would likely be played by Beyonce, who has long been associated with the role and has recently elevated her interest in it.

The three previous iterations of “A Star Is Born” have alternated between settings in the film and the music worlds. The most recent one, the 1976 version from Warner Bros. that starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as doomed pair Esther Hoffman and John Norman Howard, was set in the music world. If she gets the opportunity to star alongside Russell Crowe in what will likely be a highly-publicized film, I think it’s time to take a step back and give credit where credit is due. Beyonce’s film career is soaring. I might get the clap back from commentators for this, but don’t be surprised if Beyonce goes further than the singer-turned-actresses who came before her.

Not Streisand or Cher per se (privilege is privilege), but maybe enjoy a bit more success than Diana Ross and Whitney Houston.
