WILL AND JADA SUED OVER ‘HUMAN CONTRACT’

THE FACTS
An investor for a film penned by Jada Pinkett Smith has filed a suit alleging that she and her husband guaranteed that the film would make a profit.

THE SPIN
One man claims that Will and Jada “guaranteed” a return on an investment to convince him to finance a flick called Human Contract, which Jada wrote herself back in 2007.

However, the movie never made it to theaters and has since gone straight-to-DVD and according to the Smiths, “it is unlikely that it will ever make a profit.”

So that investor has now filed paperwork in L.A. County superior court looking to get that return on his investment the legal way.

TMZ reports that Jada and Will have countered claiming they made no such claims and they want a judge to declare that they are not liable for that fool financier (I’m paraphrasing).

A repot for the couple told TMZ: “Although we normally shun this type of controversy, we felt compelled to respond to the baseless threats and absurd allegations put forth by Mr. Grasso’s counsel.”

I don’t want to say anything to make Will, Jada, or their homies in the church of Scientology (that they claim not to belong to, but OK) mad, but take a look at this trailer for the film at the helm of the suit:

This movie looks about as entertaining as rush hour (no Chris Tucker). Not sure who’s truly to blame in this suit but I don’t blame people for not bothering to release this to theaters. This movie looks like one big expensive cliché.

DENZEL WASHINGTON ALMOST LOST OUT ON THE BOOK OF ELI

THE FACTS
The Hughes Brothers reveal that Denzel Washington was almost not cast in their new film, The Book of Eli.

THE SPIN
Even an actor of Denzel Washington’s caliber can miss out on big film roles.

Denzel, who stars in the latest film from the Hughes Brothers entitled The Book of Eli, almost wasn’t cast because the backing studio felt a black actor couldn’t pull in the big international numbers they were seeking.

Allen Hughes explained to the New York Post

“I’m not gonna front - Denzel’s black. His numbers are great, but internationally does black travel? That’s what really was going on. (The studio) was crunching the numbers.”

Will Smith has commented on this before telling Entertainment Weekly:

”The big issue is, we don’t go,” he says of his fellow African-American actors. ”I’ve had conversations with Martin [Lawrence]. I’ve had conversations with Eddie [Murphy] and Denzel [Washington]. It’s long and it’s hard to do, to trudge around the world for six weeks or seven weeks. And you don’t get paid for that directly. Nobody wants to go — not even white actors, like Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler. I’m like, Are you crazy? I can match or double my U.S. box office outside of the country because I go.”

Isn’t it about time the film industry stops acting like films starring black actors can’t perform well outside of D.C., Baltimore, and Atlanta?

P.S. Please go see the movie in theaters. Do not support the local bootleg man this time. Let’s show people that when it comes to films starring and/or made by black people we support more than just slapstick and singers.

WILLOW SMITH GETS THE CASSIE CUT

THE FACTS
Online commentators ask if Willow Smith’s new haircut is “too grown.”

THE SPIN

From the looks of these pictures, Willow Smith will be one to watch if you’re into well dressed women who give face, get edgy cuts, and kill you…if you know the phrase you can fill in the rest.

But, isn’t she barely alive? You know, as in young. The daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith is 9-years-old – which has some wondering why the young girl is wearing such an “adult” hairstyle.

I don’t have kids so I’m not going to pretend to know how it works. I read one person write that their kid begged them to get a Mohawk for three months and finally she gave in. I read another say my child begs for cookies for breakfast but that doesn’t mean I’ll give it them.

This is Will and Jada’s daughter, not mine so it’s a given what they let their child do is their business. Besides, we’ve seen worse – like Mel B. giving her child a perm two days fresh out of the womb.

Still, I have to ask because I know many will have something to say: Is Willow’s cut “too grown” or are people too silly for even worrying about it?
