SAMMY SOSA ADMITS TO SKIN BLEACHING

THE FACTS
Sammy Sosa has elaborated on the products he’s used that have caused his skin to lighten.

THE SPIN
We have an update on Sammy Sosa walking around looking like his own ghost. Although his camp initially denied claims that he was channeling his inner MJ with bleaching cream (watch it now, Team Sosa, Mike had vitiligo) the baseball star has been more forthright about what exactly he’s been doing to his skin.

Sosa appeared on a Univision program and shed light on his lightened skin:

“I’m doing well, doing well, thanks to God. A little surprised by the tsunami of attention,” Sosa said in a Spanish interview with Univision reporter Tony Dandrades Tuesday  on the program “Primer Impacto.” It was the first of a two-part interview.

Photographs of Sosa during a recent appearance at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas showed his facial skin tone to be almost white. He last played in the majors in 2007 with Texas.

“What’s going on with your skin?” asked Dandrades.

“I use a cream to keep my skin smooth and soft. I apply it before I go to bed. When I was playing for Chicago all those years, I was in the sun a lot for 1 o’clock games,” said Sosa, who turns 41 tomorrow. “The flashes (from the cameras) also made my skin look lighter. I’m surprised with the controversy this has caused.”

Sosa, who would not tell Dandrades the name of the cream he uses, did say that it is European and that he is in negotiations to market the product. He added that he wears colored contact lenses because he wanted to “try something different. I’m not trying to be superficial.”

You’re not trying to be superficial but you’re bleaching your skin and wearing colored contacts. Logic fail, Sosa! Jesus be a cream of self-esteem.

Even sadder is that he plans to endorse these products, which might potentially spur thousands of people to start walking around like zebras.

I dont know if its alot of people but I do know that there are some black folk that still treat darker folk like something is wrong with them, I personally love dark skinned men and women, all skin colors are beautiful to me, BUT I guess some people are just not happy with the way god made them, they tend to equate white with right! I feel sorry for them, they will have a rude awakening!

Ok, like we did not know this.

I only hope he has a medical reason for doing this. Otherwise, this is akin to self-hate.

People, especially other black folks, used to treat me horribly over my nose being big! Whatever since most black folks have big noses and big lips!

Anyway, I used to want to get surgery to make it smaller when I was younger but as I got older, I basically just accepted my looks and said “FTW” (stands for F*** The World) concerning that situation.

What used to break my heart was it was other black people telling me this when their noses and lips were even bigger than mine! It is sad how we treat each other.

Anyway, I hope Sammy gets himself straightened out mentally.

Ignorance…and not being happy in their own skin. I understand him needing to protect his skin from being exposed to the sun so much, but didn’t he understand that the lighter your skin is the more harmful the sun can be and you have a higher risk for sun poisioning or skin cancer. Who advises these people, they really lack common sense when making choices. I’m not saying everything I do is right and I boy have I made some bad choices in my life, but dam at least I have common sense.

If Sosa is going to promote this skin ‘whitening’ product, I hope he informs the consumer of all potential health consequences. Skin cancer, is a heavy price to pay for self hate and vanity.

I mention Univision, now you reporting from Univsion, Yeah ok TV One! Lol
You finally realize your reporting is slow. We got it now, we knew that he’s bleaching.

What a couple they make. His bleached skin and her bad boob job.

As someone mentioned on yesterday’s blog, what do people tell their kids when they’re born with the genetic features that the parents have surgically altered? It must be very confusing for the children.

He looks like the boogie man.

Sammy Sammy Sammy u have gone downhill since this whole steroid thing

This is a testament to the strength and overall effectiveness of global White racism in which it will implicitly/explicitly make those who are not of European extraction do everything possible to alter their natural Black skin. Quite honestly, I feel sorry for “always Smiling face and Al Jolson” like Sammy Sosa.

Moving beyond the “who gives a damn” portion of the show, I find myself at odds with the title of this post. The ‘writer’ claims that Sosa “admits” to skin bleaching. According to the article that was cut and pasted from another source, Sosa said that he uses a skin cream nightly to make his skin smooth and soft. That’s not the same as him “admitting” that he is bleaching his skin. TvOne, please, for the love of any type of journalistic integrity, PLEASE get your ‘ish together. Pretty please?

AP

AP,

That was the first part of the interview, the second part was the following night. In that interview he reported the cream changes your skin complexion, the cream took him back to his “original color” because He says he was always “fair skinned” but the sun caused him to be darker.

Just a brainwashed weak puerto rican. Hating on his own race. Why can’t people just love who they are. I can’t stand it when people try to look white. Exception for poor Micheal Jackson. He was tortured at an earlier age by his no good ass daddy.

V.O.S.

I hear and feel what you are saying but Sammy is Dominican.

Pueto Rican or Domincan, it does not matter. When it comes to those people of African and Latin decent, or 90% of those from the Islands or South America.
They do not look at themselves as Black.
Neither do they feel a connection with Black people. They actually feel because they can speak spanish or they have a cousin or Aunt or Uncle who is Spanish they think I must be Latino. And as far as Sammy goes I bet he would give his right arm to look like that sell out Alex Rodrigez. And I wish these dark skinned Latinos, when asked what is your race would stop saying they are Puerto Rican or something like that. Puerto Rico is a place or culture not a race. I was born light bright and almost white with blond hair and cought hell for it growing up. But that never made me feel I had to deny my black heritage.

“Even with a Black president, why do you think so many people still have an issue with their complexion? Tell us here.”

We have a bi-racial president. For heaven’s sake stop denying the man part of who he is.

Years ago, I had a brother-in-law who was from Panama. He and his family were very dark skinned and had features that were African. But because they spoke spanish, they always denied that they were black.

But, many Africans don’t call themselves black either. They say, “I am not black, I am African”. Since the concept of ‘race’ was originated with Europeans who were literally in a race to see which among them could amass the most wealth through slave trade, the idea of race may still seem foreign to native Africans.

It’s sad, but honestly he is no different than the people who get injections, and plastic surgery for no good reason, and use hair relaxers etc..All this stuff is crazy and based on a non-ethnic standard of beauty. Yes it is extreme but self-hatered is extreme and sadly it is growing among minorities. t seems that many in our society have stopped questioning the racism behind judgements about what is considered beautiful and have just gotten with the program or I should say “programming”. Not healthy.

K20, go find you a bi-racial web site you prejudiced fool.

It’s so sad that when you hear of skin bleaching Michael Jackson comes to mind. Especially when it came out in his autopsy report that Michael did indeed have Vitiligo. Sammy does not. Any bleaching that Michael was doing was to even out his skin since it was blotchy. If you’ve seen anyone with Vitiligo you know what I’m talking about. Even in death people are still lying about Michael. Sammy just doesn’t want dark skin. Michael had a skin disease. There is a difference. Move on and keep Michael’s name off of your tongue!
