BREAKING NEWS: E. Lynn Harris Dead at 54
THE FACTS:
According to several sources, including The Arkansas Times, author E. Lynn Harris has died today at the age of 54.
THE SPIN:
The celebrated author’s death was confirmed by his personal assistant, who noted the beloved author had health problems but declined to provide any specifics on what caused his death.
Harris was in the middle of a West Coast book tour. Harris’s latest novel, Basketball Jones, was about the gay lover of a NBA star. Harris’ novels were famous for depicting the black gay community – particularly the down-low phenomenon of athletes. Harris first burst onto the scene in the early 90′s with Invisible Life and went on to publish many novels after that.

OMG, this is awful. E. Lynn Harris was the voice of the gay Black male. His books enlightened so many and dispelled some of the myths. So many talented African Americans are dying so young. Rest in peace.
Had the pleasure of meeting him @ book tour in Denver year ago…Nice funny personality….Will be missed.

I am saddened by this news…I have read all his books, and his first book, Invisible Life, I introduced to my co-workers and turned them into E.Lynn Harris fans….he will be missed….
Mr. Harris published many great novels. Gay or Straight, once you pick up his book you must keep reading until your done. Than you purchase the next one. You will truely be miss.
My condolence to Mr Harris’ mom and the rest of his family. He was such a gifted author. I have read all of his books and have always recommended them to friends and family. My favorite singer(MJ)left June 25, now my favorite author has gone July 26. May they both RIP.

As a person that purchase and is an avid reader of African American Literature. E.Lynn Harris is one of my favorite male authors, I started reading his books when he came out with Invisible Life. If was indeed a talented writer. My condolences and prayers to his entire family.
I REMEMBER THE FIRST TOME I READ ONE OF HIS BOOKS “INVISIBLE LIFE” I WAS ON VACATION IN ATL. I WAS STAYING WITH A FRIENG WHO WAS ALSO AN AVID READER LIKE MYSELF, SHE HAD ROOM FULL OF BOOKS. SO, AS I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO READ, I SAW THE COVER, AND STARTED TO READ THE BOOK. I WAS ONLY IN ATL FOR 2 WEEKS, AND BY THE TIME I HAD LEFT I HAD READ HIS FIRST 3 BOOKS! I COULDN’T PUT THEM DOWN! I WOULD READ ONE AND GO TO THE NEXT ONE! E. LYNN BECAME MY FAVORITE AUTHOR EVER! HIS STORIES GRABBED YOU AND LET YOU INTO A WORLD THAT STILL SEEKS UNDERSTANDING! I TRULY LOVED HIM AND HIS WORK! I HAD HOPED TO SEE HIM ON THIS TOUR! I WILL MISS HIM AND THAT BEAUTIFUL SMILE HE GAVE TO ALL HIS FANS!! MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS ENTIRE FAMILY!
Great talent… even though I don’t
agree with the homosexual lifestyle
I know he made a big impact on many
lives and gave them an outlet of expression. Sorry to hear of his passing!

Whether or not you agreed with his lifestyle, the man was talented without question. I personally don’t subscribe to it but the bottom line is he lived a good life and another one of our great talents have been lost to us.

I am sadden by E. Lynn’s death I respected him for his honesty. I was proud of the way he used his talent in a positve way as a Black Male. I will always remember his warm smile and big heart. I will miss seeing him at his book tour in Little Rock.
